Judd Nelson is the ex-brat-packer in this particular direct-to-video gem. Befriended by a wealthy but depraved young couple (Joanna Pacula and Patrick Bauchau), Nelson joins the pair in their bizarre notions of fun and games. He thinks he knows the score, but even he isn't parade for the kinkiness of his hosts. Though much is suggested, surprisingly little happens. Pop star Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees star in this musical, loosely based on the popular 1967 Beatles album Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. In the story, Billy Shears, who now heads the Lonely Hearts Club Band, is the grandson of the famous Sergeant Pepper. He is confronted by the need to save the magical musical instruments of the band from the bad guys, led by music tycoon B.D. Brockhurst (Donald Pleasance), who want to steal them. If they succeed, the magic which infuses "Heartland U.S.A." will disappear. Among the many Beatles' songs performed in the film by well-known popular artists are: "She's Leaving Home" (Bee Gees, Jay MacIntosh, John Wheeler), "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" (Steve Martin), "Got To Get You into My Life (Earth, Wind & Fire), "When I'm 64" (Sandy Farina), "Come Together" (Aerosmith), "Sgt. Nils Lofgren has been a member of Crazy Horse (a Neil Young backing band), worked with Bruce Springsteen, and played guitar on a record for Memphis legend and guitar master Carl Perkins -- therefore qualifying him to teach the masses a thing or two about playing the guitar. Teaming up with the Hot Licks Video crew, Lofgren jumps in front of the camera to educate the novice player on what makes a solid rock & roll player. By focusing on picked and split harmonics, chord shifting, harmonic minor work, rolling the notes, and using the thumbpick for percussive rhythm parts, Lofgren covers all the bases of rock guitar.
