On an impulse, Carrie Llewellyn (Jodie Bissett) and Jim Barber (Rob Estes) are married in Las Vegas. The couple heads home dreading the prospect of breaking the news of their instant union to their children--of which they have eight between them. It helps not at all that many of the kids already don't like each other, nor that Carrie's offspring can't warm up to Jim, and vice versa. An eventful family excursion to the local bowling alley finally brings everyone together--and when it seems that Carrie and Jim may drift apart, it's the children who cook up strategies to bring them back together. In one respect, this made-for-cable movie goes way, way past The Brady Bunch when a brief romance develops between the two oldest kids. Produced for the ABC Family Channel, I Do, They Don't was originally telecast on March 20, 2005. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Another of the many Mary Higgins Clark adaptations produced by and for the PAX Network, We'll Meet Again was one of four such adaptations filmed back-to-back in Vancouver during the summer of 2002. Laura Leighton stars as TV reporter Fran Simmons, who returns to her New England hometown for a reunion with her high school friend Molly Lisch (Brandy Ledford). The occasion is not altogether festive; Molly has just been paroled after serving nearly six years in prison for the murder of her wealthy husband. Protesting her innocence, Molly hopes that Fran will help her clear her name -- and, incidentally, track down the genuine killer. But when a new spate of killings takes place, it appears as if Molly is up to her old tricks. Making matters worse, Molly suffers from what appears to be selective amnesia and is unable to account for her actions during the latest string of murders. Key elements in this story include poisoned champagne, a fireplace poker, and a very old pair of shoes. Mary Higgins Clark's We'll Meet Again was originally broadcast on November 17, 2002. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Divorced mom Kathleen Russell (Roma Downey) needs a lot of money in a hurry in order to afford a decent home for herself and her daughter Zoey (Sarah Rosen Fruitman). Meanwhile, Kathleen's boss, swinging bachelor Sam Field (Eric McCormick) must pretend to be happily married, and with children, if he wants to close a major business deal with mysterious Mexican financier Javier Del Campo (Hector Elizondo). At first, it seems as though Kathleen and Sam come up with the notion of posing as man and wife all by themselves; but as this made-for-TV romantic comedy-fantasy progresses, it is clear that two other people are actually pulling the strings--and there's a third character looming in the shadows! Although Borrowed Hearts is ideal Christmas-season fare, CBS chose to unveil the film on November 30, 1997. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Just in case the title didn't spill the beans, this made-for-TV nail-biter was based on a novel by Steve Martini. In the midst of a bitter child-custody battle with her former husband, Jack (Richard Masur), Laurel Vega (Patricia Richardson) is accused of murdering Jack's new, pregnant wife, Melanie (Allison Mackie). Although he knows Laurel is innocent, Jack lies to the police, using his clout as a senator to rid himself of Laurel once and for all. She, in turn, could clear herself in a minute by revealing the name of the real murderer -- but she can't without ruining the life of her 16-year-old son, Danny (Eric Michael Cole). Caught in the middle of this intrigue is Paul Madriani (Brian Dennehy), Laurel's defense attorney -- and, incidentally, her brother-in-law. With more twists and turns than a mountain trail, the two-part, four-hour Steve Martini's Undue Influence pleased the crowd when it first aired over CBS on September 15, and 17, 1996. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Yuppie couple Denise Harris (Alyssa Milano) and Roger Lewis (Cameron Bancroft) get it in their wee little heads to head off to Alaska, there to work a gold mine some 75 miles away from civilization, At first, Denise and Roger revel in their exotic new surroundings, but before long the weather goes from cold to really cold, the supplies run out, and all contact with the outside world is cut off. Are the two city-dwellers prepared to endure the ordeal of making their way back to town or will they end up a pair of frozen Yuppie-sickles? In one of the big dramatic moments, the starving Denise and Roger seriously consider eating their pet dog; one suspects that this idea is borne of jealousy, since the dog gives the film's best performance.
