Actor Edgar Ramirez specialized in playing thuggish, brutal types onscreen -- an image he used to portray characters on both sides of the law with great effectiveness. Growing up in his native Venezuela, Ramirez originally planned to enter a career on the landscape of global politics, as an outlet for his fascination with the human condition. Instead, he caught the drama bug early on (when a university professor felt impressed by Ramirez's work in a student film and suggested that he continue acting), and in fact warmed to it for the same basic reason -- because it gave him an opportunity to explore different perspectives, scenarios, and ideas. In the mean time, Ramirez did in fact involve himself in Venezuelan politics, specifically in the organization Dale al Voto. The actor appeared onscreen in Spanish-language productions in the early 2000s, but signed for his first major international crossover role as a bounty hunter in Tony Scott's hell-raising actioner Domino (2005). Ramirez followed this up with a high-profile turn as a nasty hit man who marks Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) for death in Paul Greengrass' The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), and appeared in a small supporting role in the political thriller Vantage Point (2008), starring Dennis Quaid and Forest Whitaker. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

The (mostly) true story of a Hollywood princess turned bounty hunter is told in this witty action-drama from director Tony Scott. Domino Harvey (Keira Knightley) was the daughter of famed actor Laurence Harvey (played by Jesse Pate) who passed on when Domino was only eight years old. Domino's mother, former fashion model Paulene Stone (played by Jacqueline Bisset and renamed (%Sophie Wynn) in the film), strove to give her daughter a comfortable life, but Domino was naturally rebellious, and after a contentious stint in boarding school, a brief career as a runway model, and a fling with the fashion business, Domino was looking for something more exciting. She found it when he met Ed Mosbey (Mickey Rourke), an ex-con who had gone on to a successful career as a "bail recovery agent" -- in short, a bounty hunter. Ed also taught others how to join his profession, and Domino took his course and joined his team, along with Choco (Edgar Ramirez), a headstrong bail agent who took an immediate fancy to Domino. Domino, Ed, and Choco became a successful team -- successful enough that television producer Mark Heiss (Christopher Walken) asked them to become the subject of a television reality series. However, it was after the cameras were turned on Domino that her life got truly crazy. Bail bondsman Claremont Williams III (Delroy Lindo) had hired Domino and her friends for a risky case, and soon Domino, Ed, and Choco were chasing missing men and money while landing in hot water with both the FBI and the Mafia. Domino was loosely based on Domino Harvey's real life story; sadly her personal life was as reckless as her career, and Domino died as a result of drug abuse on June 27, 2005, after this film was completed. Writer/director Alberto Arvelo transplants Edmond Rostand's swashbuckling tale of misplaced love to the cramped slums of Caracas with this tale of a smitten gangster who longs for the affections of an impossibly beautiful local girl. Nearly 40 years after Che Guevara's execution in Bolivia, director Steven Soderbergh retraces the life of the iconic Cuban revolutionary in this nearly four-and-a-half-hour saga. Part 1 begins on November 26, 1956, as Fidel Castro (Demián Bichir) sails into Cuban waters with 80 rebels in tow. Among those rebels is Argentine doctor Ernesto "Che" Guevara (Benicio Del Toro), a man who shares Castro's dream of overthrowing corrupt dictator Fulgencio Batista. As the struggle gets under way, Guevara proves an indispensable part of the revolution due to his firm grasp on the concepts of guerilla warfare. Guevara is heartily embraced by both his comrades and the Cuban people, and quickly rises through the ranks to become first a commander, and ultimately a revolutionary hero. Part 2 of the saga begins with Guevara at the absolute peak of his fame and power. Disappearing suddenly, Guevara subsequently resurfaces in Bolivia to organize a modest group of Cuban comrades and Bolivian recruits in preparation for the Latin American Revolution. But while the Bolivian campaign would ultimately fail, the tenacity, sacrifice, and idealism displayed by Guevara during this period would make him a symbol of heroism to followers around the world.
