The legends of Sherwood Forest get turned on their head in this collection of episodes from the British comedy series Maid Marian and Her Merry Men, in which Marian (Kate Lonergan) is a take-charge gal who leads a band of noble thieves and Robin of Kensington (Wayne Morris) is her cowardly lackey. This video release features the first three episodes of the series: "How the Band Got Together" (which explains how Marian came to meet her partners in crime), "Robert the Incredible Chicken" (in which Robin, a poor hand with a bow and arrow, is challenged to an archery competition), and "A Game Called John" (which finds King John, played by Forbes Collins, deciding to spruce up his public image). ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

This comedy was inspired by the true story of Cynthia Payne, a former waitress who gained fame as England's best-known (and best-liked) madame. Christine Painter (Julie Walters) is a working-class single mother who sub-leases a few inexpensive flats as a way of bringing in extra money. Christine has no particular interest in selling her body, but when she finds herself in a tight spot financially -- and notices that the prostitutes who rent her apartments are the only ones who consistently pay on time -- she decides to open a brothel. With the help of Shirley (Shirley Stelfox), an experienced prostie, and Morton (Alec McCowen), a former RAF commander with a fondness for women's undergarments, Christine opens a little place where elderly businessmen can indulge their fondness for kinky lingerie and being spanked by younger women. Soon Christine's business is booming and everyone is happy -- until the police pay her a visit. Jean-Claude Van Damme makes his starring debut in the aptly titled Bloodsport. An American soldier at large in Hong Kong, Van Damme becomes involved in the Kumite (also spelled Kumatai), a highly illegal kickboxing competition. Whoever survives the bout will be crowned Kumite champion of the world-a title that has plenty of challengers with homicide in their hearts. The finale offers a duel to the death (or near-death) between Van Damme and reigning Kumite king Bolo Yeung. The script is based on the real-life exploits of martial arts champ Frank Dux (who serves as the film's fight coordinator).
