Melodramatic and obvious in its ploy to dampen all the handkerchiefs in the theater, Yesterday pulls it off. Gabrielle (Claire Pimpare) is a radical French-Canadian artist from one side of the economic, political, and linguistic tracks, and Matt (Vince Van Patten) is a rich American kid studying nearby at McGill university. The two meet, fall in love, and experience all the excitement of the 1960s. Gabrielle's brother is involved in a separatist fiasco, and politics as well as economic differences push and pull at the couple's relationship. When Matt finally decides he will not run away from his draft notice, he takes off for the Vietnam War leaving -- unknown to him -- a pregnant Gabrielle behind. Fate throws a few curve balls that have a chance at separating the two lovers forever, as the handkerchiefs begin their workout. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

In a mixture of French and English, this Canadian film tells the somewhat muddled story of a lad growing up in Montreal. Without many prospects, the boy is confused on the one hand by his virginal but fanatically separatist French-speaking girlfriend, and his goofy (but sexually available) English girlfriend who is a model. Somehow, this confusion later leads him to bank robbery. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

This independent cinematic feature deals with the youthful rebellion of young students in Montreal. The kids get their kicks by hanging out in the dormitory and smoking marijuana, drinking, having sex and occasionally resorting to petty thievery. Several nude scenes mark this as an exploitation feature. A combination of black-and-white mixed with color photography offers up the feeling of the psychedelic era that permeated at the time of the film's release in 1968. This feature appeared at the 1968 Berlin Film Festival. Music is provided by The Sidetrack. ~ Dan Pavlides, All Movie Guide

When a young girl is raped, she becomes pregnant and ends up going to her doctor. She soon takes up with an Arab who pockets her abortion money and disappears. Two teenage boys offer to take the girl away to find and beat up the man who raped her, but instead, the three pick up another girl down the road and proceed to rape the rape victim. She struggles in vain before being subdued by the brutal teens, never to be seen in the film again. No clue is given to her fate. The three young sociopaths then drive on until they meet a Frenchman who claims to have raped the girl. The two boys beat the man before taking off to an unknown destination. The feature is mostly a disturbing display of brutality and violation, but occasional humor manages to color this otherwise depressing film. ~ Dan Pavlides, All Movie Guide
