An unexceptional cloak-and-sword adventure yarn by director Bernard Borderie, this tale is set in 16th-century France and features the exploits of a super-macho knight, Pardaillan (Gerard Barray). Pardaillan is in love with the beauteous Violetta (Michele Grellier), currently disguised as a gypsy but actually a noblewoman by birth. When she is literally swept off her feet and kidnapped by the local villainous Duke, the knight swings into action. He ends up with an affable nobleman, a hulking, musclebound sidekick, and another cowardly soul to help him out in his plan to unseat the Duke and retrieve his fair lady. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

The Gallant Musketeer is the Chevalier de Pardaillan, played by Gerard Barray. In 16th century France, de Pardaillan offers his services to King Henry III. The monarch is grateful for the chevalier's assistance during the battle of Chartres. Christiane Minazzoli provides welcome female relief to the near-nonstop swashbuckling. Filmed in France in 1958, Gallant Musketeer was released to the US two years later; the following year, Gerard Barray showed up as D'Artagnan in a brace of Three Musketeers adventures. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
In this standard comedy of sex and odd manners, a few men and women converge on a picturesque chateau for the reading of a will and then start pairing off. One of the women lives with her successful photographer-boyfriend, and she arrives at the chateau because she is supposed to have inherited something. Before too long, she has fallen for the lawyer reading the will. In the meantime, her boyfriend arrives in the guise of her brother, and he is attracted in a big way to his girlfriend's cousin. So while she goes after the lawyer, he is occupied with his own pursuits. The maid in the chateau, in turn, is undecided about whether to accept the romantic overtures of a young valet. There are a few potholes in these roads to romance, but given the tone of the proceedings they are not likely to cause serious damage. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
