The Gallant Musketeer is the Chevalier de Pardaillan, played by Gerard Barray. In 16th century France, de Pardaillan offers his services to King Henry III. The monarch is grateful for the chevalier's assistance during the battle of Chartres. Christiane Minazzoli provides welcome female relief to the near-nonstop swashbuckling. In this standard comedy of sex and odd manners, a few men and women converge on a picturesque chateau for the reading of a will and then start pairing off. One of the women lives with her successful photographer-boyfriend, and she arrives at the chateau because she is supposed to have inherited something. Before too long, she has fallen for the lawyer reading the will. In the meantime, her boyfriend arrives in the guise of her brother, and he is attracted in a big way to his girlfriend's cousin. So while she goes after the lawyer, he is occupied with his own pursuits. The maid in the chateau, in turn, is undecided about whether to accept the romantic overtures of a young valet. This costume drama by director Bernard Borderie is the first part of a two-feature combination, set in 17th-century France. In this first, 100-minute installment, D'Artagnan (Gerard Barry) arrives in Paris and joins up with the king's Musketeers. Considerable sword fights and action scenes unfold as the Musketeers are called upon to save Queen Anne (Françoise Christophe). Based on a novel by Theophile Gautier, this costume drama by Pierre Gaspard-Huit is set in 17th-century France and centers around De Sigognac (Jean Marais), a nobleman fallen on hard times. The once-wealthy and still-titled gentleman is currently working with an itinerant acting troupe where he comes across Isabelle (Genevieve Grad) a comely maid who tugs at his heart strings. He falls in love with her, but she is unwilling to make a commitment. Meanwhile, another of the titled gentry has been chasing after Isabelle with a little more success, in that he simply kidnaps her. In this convoluted drama, a young woman and two cousins, whom she doesn't know, find that they are named as beneficiaries in their grandmother's will. The young woman, because she's never met them, mistakes a friend of her cousin, for her cousin. Pardaillan is in love with the beauteous Violetta (Michele Grellier), currently disguised as a gypsy but actually a noblewoman by birth. When she is literally swept off her feet and kidnapped by the local villainous Duke, the knight swings into action. The Sultan discovers the indiscretion and banishes the couple to wander the desert in shame, though the couple is vindicated when they manage to save the Sultan himself from the hands of the enemies. Upon this slight plot peg hangs a tapestry of fantastic swordplay and elaborate battle sequences. The film's 79-minute running time indicates that some of the racier scenes were lost in transit to American theatres. This comedy-tinged crime drama finds the detective San Antonio (Gerald Barray) and his sidekick Beru (Jean Richard) hot on the trail of some thugs who have stolen some morphine. They trace the thief to a house, but the prime suspect is found murdered. The house is full of hookers, much to the delight of the two detectives, but the drugs are gone. The crooks raid another home thinking they have found the morphine, but they mistakenly grab some small bottles that contain a virus.
