One man's insatiable appetite for sex begins upending his life in this biting independent comedy. Jack (Nestor Carbonell) is a photographer known to his friends as "Jack the Dog," thanks to his compulsive womanizing; Jack seems incapable of staying with one partner for long before he finds himself attracted to someone else, and given his good looks and easy charm, Jack doesn't have much trouble convincing the women he meets to spend the night with him. Deep inside, Jack wants to change, and he tries to put himself on the straight and narrow by marrying Faith (Barbara Williams). Jack and Faith soon have a son, Sam (Andrew J. Ferchland), whom Jack dotes upon, but Faith turns out to be a poor advertisement for long-term monogamy; she's not especially warm or forgiving, and she's started to show her age, which only intensifies Jack's taste for younger women. Jack soon slides into chronic infidelity, and Faith leaves him, relocating to London and leaving Sam behind. This is good news as far as Jack's concerned, but as he tries to watch over his son, while also seducing an endless parade of beautiful women, Jack finds himself increasingly puzzled by the opposite sex, and he wonders if he might have a problem he hasn't learned to deal with. In this black comedy shot in mock documentary style, Willie Dickenson (Michael Bowen) is a serial killer on the lam in Texas, and a filmmaker heads down to the Lone Star State to find out more about him and his background. However, while the filmmaker tracks down the killer's friends and acquaintances, he finds he isn't the only one interested in Dickenson; Dehoven (David Carradine) is a more than slightly unhinged FBI agent who has become obsessed, and when he turns up dead, a detective is put on the case who has to figure out if this latest murder is the work of Dickenson or a copycat. The fine line between investigating a character's feelings and wanting to kill yourself gets played for laughs in this dark comedy. Matt (Jamie Harris) is a screenwriter whose career is not going especially well and whose personal life is dwindling into nothingness. Matt starts talking with his friends about suicide, and nearly all of them become deeply concerned, convinced his depression has taken him over the edge. Matt insists to all around him that his questions about killing himself are merely part of his research for a script about a man who has turned suicidal. But his ex-girlfriend Amanda (Alison Eastwood) is the only one that seems to believe it. In this made-for-cable comedy-drama, Moe (Tony Danza) is a gangster who has done quite well for himself as part of a crew dealing illegal automatic weapons. However, Moe, like anyone else, is looking for love, and meets Monica (Elizabeth Barondes), a gun collector who shares a home with her sister Beth (Amy Locane) and mother (Louise Fletcher), who is dying of cancer. Moe asks Monica out on a date and she agrees, if they can double with her sister. Moe fixes Beth up with his partner and longtime friend Franco (Rustam Branaman), and the two couples head out on the town after Moe and Franco duck out of a shootout in the midst of a deal gone sour. The date goes well and Beth and Franco hit it off especially well, but Beth has a fatal accident, and Moe and Franco must decide what to do with the body. Moe is about to learn that the tempers of the most formidable mafiosos are nothing compared to the rage of Monica. In 2007 AD, a virus sweeps across Europe. Many flee to the United States where they are held in quarantine camps. At the Boston camp, police officer Delon (Natasha Henstridge), hoping to leave with her son, has used black-market contacts to acquire a passport. Delon's partner is decapitated while they are investigating a killing, and another officer, Lemieux (Christopher Lambert) arrives with back-up. They move in on the killer, a psychotic who could infect the entire city within six hours. The pursuit intensifies after troops headed by CIA operative Phillip Stearns (Andrew Divoff) arrive. This is a '90s version of a good old fashioned B monster movie. It is set in a small rural town that is outwardly upright and peaceful and is inwardly rotten to the core. It seems that in its earliest years, the town fathers made a devil's bargain with a wandering warlock to insure good crops and prosperity for the residents. They soon came to regret the deal and decided to murder the magician and bury his bones in a field. The trouble begins in modern times when the hellish bones are inadvertently unearthed thereby freeing the warlock's evil spirit which immediately takes over a scarecrow and goes on an unequaled killing spree. The strawman's handiwork is discovered by young lovers Claire and Dillon. They soon find themselves pursued by the demonic creature, but eventually they knock the stuffing out of him and destroy the evil spirit, but not before more creative murders and mayhem ensue. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

An invader from space has sinister designs on the world's blood supply in this sci-fi thriller. Paul Johnson (Michael York) is a mysterious stranger who arrives in Los Angeles and moves into a luxurious estate in Beverly Hills, hiring a private nurse, Amanda (Elizabeth Barondes), to help him with his rare medical condition, as well as a driver and errand boy, Jeremy (Richard Belzer). However, Amanda soon thinks there's something strange about Paul, and after consulting with a physician, Dr. Rochelle (Mason Adams), they discover that Johnson is actually an alien who is stockpiling reserves of blood for the dying residents of his home planet. The secret longings of three young, hip L.A. couples provides the impetus of the conversations in lightweight drama which focuses upon the issue of commitment. One member of each couple, Suzanna and Dodger, Alicia and Robert, and Michelle and Charles secretly carries a torch for former lovers. It seems that while Suzanna begs for Dodger's attention, he is still attracted to Alicia, who's pregnant with Robert's child but hesitates to tell him because Robert is attracted to Michelle who is with Charles who still yearns for Suzanna. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Once Teri Hatcher hit it big on the TV series Lois and Clark, several of her less memorable earlier projects began popping out of the woodwork. The R-rated The Cool Surface is listed as a 1993 film, but one wonders. Hatcher plays Dani Payson, a beautiful aspiring actress and neighbor to playwright Jarvis Scott (Robert Patrick). Jarvis observes Dani as she and her live-in lover alternately have sex and argue violently. He begins to have his own fantasies about Dani and is inspired to base one of his characters on her. The ambitious Dani finds out about his novel, then campaigns to win the lead in Scott's upcoming film. Cool Surface evidently wasn't cool enough to prevent certain well-proportioned members of the cast from baring all. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Sylvester Stallone gives comedy another try in this farce set in the 1930s. Angelo "Snaps" Provelone (Stallone) is the wealthy and powerful head of the Chicago mob, but his ailing father (Kirk Douglas) doesn't approve of his life in crime, and on his deathbed, Dad makes Snaps promise to go straight. Determined to honor his late father's wishes, Snaps decides to go into banking -- just as his life has fallen into chaos. Anthony Russano (Vincent Spano) informs Snaps that he's hijacked $50,000 of his money and wants to marry his daughter. Snaps discovers that his daughter Lisa (Marisa Tomei) is actually involved with the chauffeur, Oscar (Jim Mulholland), but Anthony's girlfriend Theresa (Elizabeth Barondes) has convinced her beau that Snaps is her father. Snaps hopes to use this misunderstanding as a way of getting his money back, but in the meantime, he has to deal with a wary banking board, rival mob boss Vendetti (Richard Romanus), prissy elocution coach Thornton (Tim Curry), and Snaps' one-time girlfriend Roxanne (Linda Gray).
