Frank Lawton Movies

And just what else did British leading man Frank Lawton play besides the adult David in 1935's David Copperfield? Quite a lot, actually, on both sides of that particular personal triumph. The son of actors Frank Mokeley and Daisy May Collier, Lawton made his film debut in 1928, repeating his stage role in Young Woodley. He went on to appear in such British productions as Alfred Hitchcock's The Skin Game before resettling in Hollywood in 1932. After David Copperfield, he was seen in the Boris Karloff thriller The Invisible Ray (1936) and the Tod Browning-directed fantasy The Devil Doll (1936). Lawton returned to England in 1937, where he continued to co-star in films like The Four Just Men (1939), The Winslow Boy (1950) and A Night to Remember (1957) until his retirement in 1961. Frank Lawton was the husband of British musical comedy favorite Evelyn Laye. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
