Jean-Francois Wolff Movies

Stocky European actor Jean-François Wolff specialized in character roles with an aggressive, authoritarian bent, typically in a bit or supporting capacity -- roles such as guards, police officers, and thugs. Noteworthy projects in which Wolff appeared included the action-heavy Three Musketeers update The Musketeer (2001) and the Jean-Claude Van Damme actioner JCVD (2008). ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

A veteran call girl and a neurotic psychotherapist discover that they have far more in common than they imagined in this comedy drama from filmmaker Jeanne Labrune. Alice (Isabelle Huppert) is a high-end prostitute who has been in the game for many years but thinks it might be time for her to find a new career. Meanwhile, Xavier (Bouli Lanners) is an analyst who is having a hard time sorting out his own relationship issues, especially since his wife (Valerie Dreville) is demanding a divorce. Xavier isn't happy about the sad state of his sex life, and a friend suggests he turn to a professional and puts him in touch with Alice. After Alice and Xavier bond over their shared interest in antiques, they strike a deal -- he'll give her therapy sessions, as she needs to shore up her confidence and sort out her emotional issues while she gives up prostitution, and in turn she'll give him the sex that he's not getting from his unhappy wife. However, while Alice is cool and matter-of-fact about her trade, Xavier isn't quite as casual about sex, and he's curious about her ability to assume different personalities at the whims of her customers. Sans Queue Ni Tête (aka Special Treatment) was an official selection at the 2010 BFI London Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Jean-Claude Van Damme plays himself in this meta-crime comedy that finds him garnering mores headlines than he's had in years after stumbling into an in-progress bank heist. Down and out, with only straight-to-DVD titles under his belt and a recent job lost out to fellow has-been Steven Seagal, the aging action star returns to Belgium a broken man fresh from losing a custody case for his daughter in Hollywood. Upon his arrival, the bad news continues with a disastrous ATM encounter that leads him into the bank and straight into a robbery situation, for which he's about to be blamed. Soon, crowds grow outside on the street, with the cops quick to point the finger at him and his fans cheering for his release. The film garnered a cult following during its festival run and awarded Van Damme his first theatrical release in the States in almost a decade. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, Rovi

Director Peter Hyams brings the modern choreography talents of famed Hong Kong fight sequence designer Xin Xin Xiong to this action adventure that departs widely from its classic novel source material, focusing exclusively on the D'Artagnan character and either excising other characters completely or relegating them to minor supporting roles. Justin Chambers stars as D'Artagnan, a country-bred lad whose skill with a sword has led to aspirations of becoming a Musketeer, one of the French king's elite guard. Upon arriving in Paris, however, he finds that the Musketeers have been disbanded by order of Cardinal Richelieu (Stephen Rea), who is usurping the king's authority with the help of a lethally gifted henchman, Febre (Tim Roth). Soon, D'Artagnan is embroiled in an effort to prevent a war between his native country and England, meeting up with a beautiful love interest (Mena Suvari) along the way. As he has often done before, director Hyams doubles as his own cinematographer. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

Although this made-for-TV chiller would seem to have been inspired by The Amityville Horror, it actually has a closer kinship to To Kill a Mockingbird. Moving his family into their new home, tech writer Victor Robinson (John Savage) can't shake the feeling that someone is already living there. Well, not exactly "living"; thanks to an ancient Edison invention activated by Victor's autistic daughter, the family begins picking up disturbing echoes of a murder that occurred there eight years ago. Even worse, one of the Robinsons' neighbors is a child killer, who will strike again unless the spirits of his past victims can make themselves known. First telecast November 12, 1998, Lost Souls was originally part of UPN's weekly "Nightworld" movie series. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
