A twentysomething misfit dedicates his life to giving the drummer some, even when the drums are only imaginary, in this comedy written and directed by comic Ari Gold. Power (Gold) grew up in a small mining town in New Mexico, where his father (Michael McKean) always imagined his son would one day join him in digging copper from the earth. But Power has a dream of playing the drums, and since he doesn't have a drum kit, he's become a master of "air drums," flailing his arms in the manner of Neil Peart or Keith Moon against a huge but nonexistent set of traps. Power's desire to become the world's greatest air drummer doesn't earn him much respect at home, so he travels to Mexico, where he learns of an air-drumming competition in Newark, NJ. Power hits the road for the garden state and meets Carlos (Steven Williams), a master air drummer who becomes his guide in the art of not really playing. Power also gets some much-needed encouragement from Annie (Shoshannah Stern), a sweet born-again girl living upstairs from him. But when Power learns that his father back home is leading a strike to save jobs for the employees at the local copper mine, winning the title becomes a matter of defending the honor of his family and his hometown, and he dedicates himself to defeating arrogant country music star Dallas Houston (Adrien Grenier), who is favored to win. This first in a planned series of films devoted to telling the tale of the Mormon faith in America, The Book of Mormon charts the recorded history of Nephi (Noah Danby) as he leads his people from Jerusalem to the "Promised Land" of the Americas. Along the way, Nephi must contend with his infuriating brothers Laman (Mark Gollaher) and Lemuel (Cragan Foulger), battle the elements, and protect his family from the wilds as he carries out God's mission for him. 17-year-old Victor Jackson (Billy Kay) is accused of using his car as a lethal weapon, deliberately running over a pedestrian while imitating the ultra-violent video game "Carjack 2000: Millenium Mayhem." That Victor's trial is not an ordinary one is tipped off by the fact that Tess (Della Reese) is the judge, Andrew (John Dye) is the defense attorney and Rafael (Alexis Cruz) is the prosecutor. This opening episode of Touched by an Angel's fourth season is actually the first half of a "crossover" story, with the conclusion appearing on the spinoff series Promised Land. Heavenly caseworkers Monica (Roma Downey) and Tess (Della Reese) are dispatched to the town of Chicory Creek, home of their friend Russell Greene (Gerald McRaney) and his family. At the same time, Russell's no-good brother Joe (Richard Thomas) is involved in a reckless-driving accident in which two people are killed. True to form, Joe runs away to avoid prosecution--but not before posing as the "good samaritan" who has rescued the only other survivor of the crash! Joe then makes a beeline to Russell's house, where despite a far-from-warm welcome he insists upon a reunion with Nathaniel (Eddie Karr), the son he deserted years earlier. Throughout the rest of the episode, Joe demonstrates repeatedly that he may well beyond redemption--meaning that Monica and Tess REALLY have their work cut out for them this time! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
