Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) and the Groosalugg (Mark Lutz) return from vacation and learn about the kidnapping of Angel's son. Cordy does her best to console Angel (David Boreanaz). But it's a scuffle involving Gunn (J. August Richards) that takes everyone's mind off of Connor. It seems that during his days as a young inner-city vampire hunter, Gunn sold his soul to a demon in exchange for something he desperately wanted. Now that he wants to give his heart to Fred (Amy Acker), the demon has come to prevent him from giving away something that no longer belongs to him. Angel, Fred, and the gang must come to Gunn's aid to save him from an entire cadre of glitzy, Vegas-style demons. In the end, Gunn reveals that he sold his soul for a surprising commodity. Meanwhile, an isolated Wesley (Alexis Denisof) comes to terms with the lonely fallout from his unwitting assistance to Connor's abductors. Angel (David Boreanaz) and the gang hole up in the hotel, safe thanks to a protection spell cast by the Furies. A selfish new father, Angel refuses to let go of his son for even a moment. Elsewhere, Holtz (Keith Szarabajka) explains to Sahjhan (Jack Conley) that he spared Angel and his child so that he could exact a more lasting form of revenge. Holtz later recruits Justine (Laurel Holloman), an amateur vampire-hunter whose sister was murdered by a vamp. Meanwhile, Wolfram & Hart add their own warriors to the mass of competing factions gathering outside the hotel to harm the baby, but the evil lawyers have the inside track: the bugs they have planted inside the hotel. As the amassed forces finally break through the protection spell, Angel takes to the sewers with his son and leads his foes on a wild goose chase to an abandoned mine shaft. There, his "child" is revealed to be a bomb. His enemies buried in rubble, the vampire hero escapes -- and pays a visit to Wolfram & Hart partner Linwood (John Rubinstein), whom he advises to protect rather than harm the baby if he knows what's good for him. Meanwhile, the gang -- having cottoned on to Wolfram & Hart's surveillance equipment and aided Angel in his ruse -- reunite father and baby at a local hospital. After learning that the kid has a clean bill of health, Angel names his son Connor and finally allows his friends the chance to help him care for the child. Noted independent film producer Peter McCarthy made his writing and directing debut (Angie Brown served as co-director) with this surreal comedy. John Boyz (James LeGros) is an aimless sad sack who is wandering Los Angeles in the wake of the 1992 riots. John is in an unclear state of mind; he can't find a job (and doesn't really want one), the IRS has confiscated his money, his girlfriend Jessica (Lisa Zane) is sleeping around, he can't figure out what the beautiful but mysterious Elle (Marzita Rivera) wants from him, his drug-addicted brother Jimmy (Ethan Hawke) needs 3,000 dollars for a detox program, and police chief Merryl Fence (Nelson Lyon) is encouraging the citizens of L.A. to kill themselves. There he dreams of his new career and of starting a new life in Miami with his high school sweetie Doris. She works at the Gator Gas fuel depot down the road. She daydreams about her estranged father Leon and takes care of her mother Lillian who suffers from chronic depression. When not caring for her mom, Doris sees Dash, a bait salesman.
