Fugitives director Miguel Hermoso explores the life of celebrated flamenco artist Lola Flores in this biopic that follows the mercurial dancer from her working-class roots in Jerez, Spain through her turbulent relationship with singer Manolo Caracol and eventual rise to nationwide stardom. As a child Fores knew exactly what she wanted from life, and an early encounter with Caracol found her dreams coming true when she was still just a young girl. Over the years Flores and Caracol would struggle to maintain their personal and professional relationships, though after years of flings with other men she would eventually settle down with guitarist Antonio Gonzalez. Though Flores may be gone, her legacy lives on in the form of three talented daughters who went on to establish successful careers in the music industry. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

A series of strange incidents at a rooming house suggest that sinister forces are at work in this low-key thriller from writer and director Pablo Malo. Avelina (Maria Jesus Valdes) is an elderly woman who runs a boarding house in a town along the coast of Spain. Her daughter Julia (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) runs a school for girls that has been hit with a minor scandal after one of her students was found dead in a nearby swamp. Marco (Jose Luis Garcia Perez), a teacher whose life has hit a rough patch, has come to the town seeking rest and moves into Avelina's house, as does Monica (Andrea Villanueva), the former roommate of the dead student. When Monica attempts suicide by jumping from a tall building, she tells her rescuers that she's been hearing the voice of her late friend day and night, while Marco notices a photograph in the house has suddenly added another figure, that of a former student who died under traumatic circumstances. Avelina begins to suspect that evil spirits have made a home in her rooming house, and she brings in a pair of paranormal researchers, Sergio (Vicente Romero) and Noe (Andres Gertrudix), to investigate. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

A man tries to leave his wild life behind him for the sake of a young boy in this comedy drama. Pedro (José Luis García Pérez) is a dentist who lives and works in Madrid. Pedro is also a "bear" -- slang for a gay man who is stocky and has lots of body hair. Pedro likes the company of other bears, and enjoys a freewheeling sex life until his sister Violetta (Elvira Lindo) arrives at his door with a special request. Violetta is traveling to India for two weeks, and wants Pedro to look after her son, nine-year-old Bernardo (David Castillo), while she's away. Pedro initially bristles at the idea of playing babysitter, but he soon warms to the situation, and develops a paternal bond his nephew. Pedro also gets some help from Manuel (Arno Chevrier), a former boyfriend who is looking to settle into a stable relationship. When Pedro gets word that Violetta has been arrested in India for drug smuggling and is likely to spend some time behind bars, he realizes that he's going to be stuck with Bernardo for a while -- and to his surprise, he doesn't mind the idea at all. But Doña Teresa (Empar Ferrer), the boy's paternal grandmother, openly disapproves of Pedro's lifestyle, and doesn't want Bernardo staying with his uncle. While Pedro is strictly mindful of his behavior around the house, he occasionally slips out for anonymous sex with fellow bears, and when a detective hired by Doña Teresa catches him in the act, it's an open question if he'll be allowed to have continued custody of his nephew.
