It was once said of aquatic film personality Esther Williams that "Wet she was a star". Substitute the word "naked" for "wet" and you've summed up the career of Dutch-born actress Sylvia Kristel. Breaking loose from her strict Calvinist upbringing, Kristel headed for the wide-open town of Amsterdam. She became a model, ultimately winning the Miss TV Europe Contest. Kristel entered films in 1972, and within two years settled into the erotic Emmanuelle escapades which earned her worldwide fame. Even Sylvia Kristel's mainstream efforts -- Lady Chatterly's Lover, Mata Hari etc. -- have contrived to keep her in a state of near-permanent undress. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie GuideIn this sardonic crime comedy, Rene (Gerard Depardieu) and Marchand (Michel Piccoli) are best friends. What makes their friendship special is that Rene is a professional thief, and Marchand is a policeman, albeit somewhat corrupt. They have even shared the same girlfriend, for Krista (Sylvia Kristel) began as Rene's girl and then became Marchand's. During the German occupation, they were both sent to a German labor camp, and they teamed up to outwit the Germans and have as good a time as they could, under the circumstances. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

Sometimes a reporter's urge to tell the truth is unquenchable, at least when the reporter is Dolannes (Jean-Pierre Mocky). Unfortunately, his newspaper is owned by corporations which like to keep things on an even keel, and his stories are often "spiked," (kept quiet). Frustrated, he leaves the paper and starts his own, telling just who received what bribe in the sports world, unmasking the pretensions of a politician doctor who does abortions, and generally telling the all-too unwelcome truth. For a little while, he lives in a reportorial paradise. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

Inspector Van der Valk's investigation of a series of rapes leads him to suspect a gang made up of "untouchable" rich kids. Their gang doesn't need to steal as they are all rich. Instead, they hold sadistic quasi-satanic rituals, wreck the houses of other rich people, and rape women. The boys call themselves "The Ravens"; the girls call themselves the "She-Cats." Egged on by the "She-Cats," the boys' activities escalate until they commit a murder. The inspector knows all this; now he has to prove it. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide
