Three of the main Lizzie McGuire characters are consumed by obsession in this episode. Lizzie (Hilary Duff) is on a pro-ecology kick, determined to save the environment at all costs. Gordo (Adam Lamberg) wants with every fiber of his being to win the Science Olympics, thereby trumping perennial champion Larry Tudgeman (Kyle J. Downes). And Matt (Jake Thomas) is driven mad with power when he is appointed school hall monitor. Before everyone comes to their senses, obsession nearly evolves into fanaticism! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Lizzie (Hilary Duff) is a bit hesitant to go on a public shopping excursion to purchase her very first bra. The situation worsens when, while at the mall, Lizzie ends up in the same store with her English teacher, Mr. Coppersmith (Ty Upshaw). Elsewhere in the same mall, Lizzie's brother, Matt (Jake Thomas), sets out to produce an amateur martial arts movie. David Carradine, former star of TV's Kung Fu and the brother of Lizzie McGuire co-star Robert Carradine (a relationship referenced in the script!), makes a cameo appearance in a very familiar guise. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
When handsome but dense Ethan Croft (Clayton Snyder) scores an 11 out of a possible 100 on a math test, the time has come for the boy to be tutored. Gordo (Adam Lamberg) is elected to help Ethan out, but Lizzie (Hilary Duff) is determined to replace Gordo so that she can be nearer to her dream boy. The ensuing "Best Tutor" war threatens to dash the long-standing friendship between Lizzie and Gordo to bits. Meanwhile, Matt (Jake Thomas) and his pal Oscar (Sebastian Jude) don homemade costumes and emerge as "superheroes" Matt Man and the Incredible Oscar, performing noble deeds throughout the neighborhood...whether anyone wants them to or not! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Everyone at Hillridge wants to be the star of the documentary that filmmaker Stan Jansen (Sean Hogan) is producing about life in junior high school -- everyone, that is, except Gordo (Adam Lamberg), who'd rather be directing movies than appearing in them. Even so, Gordo is flattered into taking the lead role in Jansen's epic. But when it becomes clear that impressionable Gordo is merely a dupe for the director's own selfish agenda, Gordo's classmates plot a revenge against the manipulative Jansen. Elsewhere, troublemaking Matt (Jake Thomas) meets his match in the equally contentious Melina (Carly Schroeder). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Lizzie (Hilary Duff) freaks out when she learns that her mom, Jo (Hallie Todd), has volunteered to chaperone the science class' field trip. Sure enough, Mom provides Lizzie with ample opportunity for embarrassment amongst her classmates. Still, the old dear comes through and proves herself to be "one of the girls" when wreaking vengeance for a prank pulled by the boys. And back at home, will Sam (Robert Carradine) and Matt (Jake Thomas) be able to survive a day without females? This time around, the main "Toon Lizzie" sequence includes a tribute to Back to the Future -- or is it Harold Lloyd's Safety Last? ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Introduced as a bit player in the second Lizzie McGuire telecast, Clayton Snyder makes his first major series appearance as the dazzlingly handsome but incredibly dense Ethan Craft. Social studies teacher Mrs. Stebel (Candy Brown Houston) assigns her students a crash course in "real life," including mock marriages, imaginary careers, and a "20 year reunion." Though she'd prefer to be "married" to her dream boy, Ethan, Lizzie (Hilary Duff) is stuck with good old Gordo (Adam Lamberg) as her "husband." Meanwhile, Miranda (Lalaine) luxuriates in her fake marriage to Ethan, while Kate mistreats her geeky "husband," Larry Tudgeman (Kyle J. Downes) -- with dire consequences for both girls. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Classroom rivals Lizzie (Hilary Duff) and Kate (Ashlie Brillault) are forced to team up for a social studies project. Though both girls enter into the assignment with fear and loathing, they begin to enjoy working together, and actually start remembering their younger days when they were close friends. This time, however, the inevitable crisis arises not from Lizzie and Kate but from their respective pals -- who may not be pals by the time the project is completed. Meanwhile, Matt (Jake Thomas) becomes convinced that he has psychic powers. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Singer Aaron Carter, "The Little Prince of Pop," guest stars in this episode. Lizzie (Hilary Duff), Miranda (Lalaine), and Gordo (Adam Lamberg) devise a strategy to crash the set of a music video that Aaron is shooting in town. As it turns out, only Lizzie's pesky kid brother, Matt (Jake Thomas), ends up on the set -- but it's Lizzie who gets a very special gift from Aaron. In addition to Carter's performance of "I Want Candy," this episode includes pop-culture nods to everything from The Great Escape to the Beatles' Abbey Road. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
