The interstellar battle between the Autobots and Decepticons rains destruction down on planet Earth as director Michael Bay adapts Hasbro and Takara's popular Transformers franchise into a big-budget, live-action summer tentpole extravaganza in this ambitious sci-fi action feature starring Shia LaBeouf, Tyrese Gibson, Bernie Mac, John Turturro, Jon Voight, and, of course, Optimus Prime and Megatron. Long ago, on the planet of Cybertron, a massive, powerful alien race divided into two factions, the noble Autobots, and the devious Decepticons. They fought for the sole access to a talisman known as the Allspark, a cube with the capacity to grant infinite power, and eventually the Autobots smuggled it off the planet's surface, hiding it in an unknown location on Earth. Now, hundreds of years later, the Deceptacons have come looking for it, and if the Autobots don't find it first, the Earth will be enslaved or destroyed by the evil aliens' use of its massive power. In Philadelphia for daughter April's math contest, Luke (Scott Patterson) visits Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) at the latter's new bookstore. Rory (Alexis Bledel) also shows up at Jess' establishment after a fight with Logan (Matt Czuchry), whereupon she and Luke exchange a few pointed words. Meanwhile, Lorelai (Lauren Graham) shudders at the thought of her parents (Edward Herrmann, Kelly Bishop) moving to Stars Hollow. Two friends who've convinced themselves they would never make a good couple discover they might just be wrong in this romantic comedy. Oliver (Ashton Kutcher) and Emily (Amanda Peet) first met when they were college students sharing a flight from California to New York; Emily spontaneously seduced Oliver on the plane, and they spent the next few days together in the city. When they parted, however, Emily decided not to pursue a relationship with Oliver, even though he was obviously interested. Over the next several years, circumstances kept putting them in one another's paths, and over the years Oliver and Emily became close friends and confidantes. Both are still certain, though, that they're entirely wrong for each other on a romantic level. However, after nearly a decade, with both Oliver and Emily edging into their thirties, they begin to wonder if they've allowed a great opportunity to pass them by. The second chapter in the "Bourne Trilogy," based on Robert Ludlum's best-selling espionage novels, reaches the screen in this sequel to the 2002 thriller The Bourne Identity. Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) has abandoned his life as a CIA assassin and has been traveling beneath the agency's radar, eventually reconnecting with Marie Kreutz (Franka Potente), the woman he loves. But Bourne is haunted by vivid dreams and troubling memories of his days as a killer, and he's not certain how much really happened and how much is a product of his imagination. When Bourne is led out of hiding by circumstances beyond his control, he must reconcile his past and present as he struggles to keep Marie out of harm's way and foil an international incident with dangerous consequences. Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) has been forced to kill Chappelle (Paul Schulze). Back at CTU, it's determined that Saunders (Paul Blackthorne) has a 19-year-old daughter to whom he's been sending money. She's a student at UC Santa Barbara. Knowing that Saunders probably has surveillance on her, Jack tells Tony (Carlos Bernard) that they'll have to do a "plain sight swap," replacing the girl with a double so Saunders won't know she's missing. The closest match they can come up with for Jane Saunders (Alexandra Lydon) is, sadly, Kim (Elisha Cuthbert). Tony gives Kim the assignment, despite Chloe's (Mary Lynn Rajskub) reservations. But when Jack gets back to CTU and finds out about it, he goes ballistic. Kim manages to convince him that it's her duty. Jack gives her a gun, just in case. They take a chopper to UCSB, where the switch is made in the ladies' room of the library where Jane works. Kim isn't enough of a physical match to fool anyone who gets too close, and that's just what happens, forcing Kim to use that gun. Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) meets with his Cabinet and tells them what's happened with the hotel, and informs them that he's had a CTU agent murdered to meet the terrorist's demand. Meanwhile, Chase (James Badge Dale) goes to interrogate Susan Cole (Jenni Blong), the wife of the man who left the Chandler Plaza Hotel, and that man, William Cole (Patrick Fabian), goes to a pharmacy and then an emergency room, complaining of a nosebleed that just won't stop. ~ Josh Ralske, Rovi
In keeping with the light and slick tones of her earlier film What Women Want, Nancy Meyers writes and directs the romantic comedy Something's Gotta Give. Jack Nicholson plays Harry Langer, a swinging sixtysomething entertainment executive surrounded by plenty of young girlfriends. His latest romance is young petite sophisticate Marin (Amanda Peet), who takes him to her mother's beach house in the Hamptons for a weekend fling. However, Marin's successful Broadway playwright mother Erica Barry (Diane Keaton) is already vacationing at the house with her sister Zoe (Frances McDormand). Marin and Harry stay anyway, and Harry ends up having a heart attack. He goes to the hospital and is looked after by thirtysomething doctor Julian Mercer (Keanu Reeves). Impressed by her writing, Dr. Mercer finds himself pursuing a romance with Erica. Because of his serious health condition, he orders Harry to stay near the hospital. While Marin returns to Manhattan, Erica agrees to stay on and look after Harry. Of course they are repulsed by each other at first, but they end up falling in love throughout the recovery process. If he wants to keep his job, Frasier must curry favor with Todd Peterson (Alan Tudyk), the youthful, self-made billionaire owner of station KACL. As it happens, Todd is shy around "high society" folks, and wants Frasier to give him a few pointers. The result: Todd turns into a Frasier clone, much to the dismay of the "original." In this animated adaptation of the popular musical, British widow Anna Leonowens (voiced by Miranda Richardson, with singing by Christiane Noll) and her ten-year-old son Louis (Adam Wylie) travel from London to Siam in 1863. The King of Siam (Martin Vidnovic) has requested a proper English governess to teach his Royal children about the western world, from which he feels his nation can no longer remain isolated. While the King is an absolute monarch bound to uphold the traditions of his country, he is also a man of science. Uncertain about change, he realizes he must lead Siam to find its place in the world, but there are many roadblocks ahead. Anna begins to teach not just the children but also the King. The two strong-willed individuals immediately clash, but Anna soon proves an able advisor, convincing the King not to fight the approaching British emissaries, but to throw them a grand ball instead. There he will convince the world he is the modern monarch of a civilized country. Kralahome (Ian Richardson), the Prime Minister of Siam, has other ideas. As the Royal Astrologer, Kralahome possesses the ability to create powerful and horrific illusions to prey on the fears of his enemies, and he has his own plans for the country. He seeks to rule the nation but he must first get rid of the King. He plans to show the British that the King is a barbarian who should be removed from office, and only a man of Kralahome's sophistication can properly lead the people. In this made-for-TV thriller, a train hauling a cargo of radioactive waste is passing through Colorado when its brakes fail in the Rocky Mountains. The train begins rolling out of control and is headed for Denver with no way to stop it. John Seger (Rob Lowe), an agent with the National Transportation Safety Board, has to find a way to bring the train safely to a halt, and he soon learns that the stakes are even greater than he imagined -- a faulty Russian atomic bomb is also on board, which could blow the city sky high in the event of a wreck. After the tragic sacrifice of Doyle (Glenn Quinn) (see "Hero"), Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) and Angel (David Boreanaz) deal with the emotional fallout of their friend's death. Soon, Cordelia learns of a strange side effect of the final kiss Doyle gave her: She is now experiencing the same painful visions he used to. Shortly thereafter, a telepathic demon named Barney (Maury Sterling) shows up at the office looking for protection from an assassin. Angel leaves Cordelia with Barney and heads out to investigate. Soon, he learns that the assassin is none other than Wesley Wyndam-Pryce (Alexis Denisof), who briefly served as Watcher for Buffy and Faith (see Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "Bad Girls") and is now a self-styled "rogue demon hunter." Angel learns that Wesley isn't hunting Barney; he's actually hunting a Kungai demon who wants to steal Barney's powers. But as the plot thickens, it turns out that Barney himself is actually the thief -- and that he's trying to auction off Cordelia for her newfound powers. A Wolfram & Hart lawyer wins the prize, but Wesley and Angel arrive just in time to save Cordy from being turned against her will into a blind oracle. Originally broadcast December 14, 1999, on the WB network, "Parting Gifts" marked season one, episode ten of the supernatural comedy drama.
