FBI Special Agent Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) recruits his mathematical genius brother Charlie (David Krumholtz) to help the Bureau solve a wide range of challenging crimes in Los Angeles. The two brothers take on the most confounding criminal cases from a very distinctive perspective. Dr. Larry Fleinhardt (Peter MacNicol) is Charlie's friend and colleague who urges Charlie to focus more on his university studies than on FBI business. Don and Charlie's father, Alan Eppes (Judd Hirsch), is pleased to see his two sons working together, but fears their competitive nature will lead to trouble.

As Anna (Samaire Armstrong) prepares to return to Pittsburgh, Seth (Adam Brody) is tortured with guilt, thinking that he, and he alone, is responsible for her abrupt departure. In other developments, Sandy (Peter Gallagher) tries to untangle the legal problems facing his wife, Kirsten (Kelly Rowan), and father-in-law, Caleb (Alan Dale). The clandestine relationship between Julie (Melinda Clarke) and Luke (Chris Carmack) is discovered by an outraged Jimmy (Tate Donovan). And though Ryan (Ben McKenzie) is happy that his former girlfriend Theresa (Navi Rawat) has decided to stay in Newport, he will be less happy about the emotional baggage Theresa has brought from their old Chino neighborhood. ~ All Movie Guide

(Linda Lavin) guest stars as Sophie Cohen, mother of Newport lawyer Sandy Cohen (Peter Gallagher) and grandmother -- or "nana" -- of Seth Cohen (Adam Brody). Arriving at her son's house with some sad news for Passover, Mrs. Cohen has a galvanizing effect on Seth's girlfriend, Summer (Rachel Bilson), who is worried that "Nana" will hate her on sight. Elsewhere, Jimmy (Tate Donovan) draws closer to Hailey (Amanda Righetti), and Marissa (Mischa Barton) goes into hiding after finding out the truth about Julie (Melinda Clarke) and Luke (Chris Carmack). ~ All Movie Guide

When this final episode of The O.C.'s first season originally aired in May of 2004, producer Josh Schwartz refused to reveal any plot details, though he made a tantalizing promise: "I think people will be upset, but they won't be disappointed." As expected, most of the episode is taken up with the wedding of gold-digging Julie Cooper (Melinda Clarke) and scheming Caleb Nichol (Alan Dale). However, there is still time aplenty to deal with other major plot developments -- not least of which is Theresa's (Navi Rawat) announcement that she is pregnant, and that Ryan (Ben McKenzie) is possibly the father. ~ All Movie Guide

On the night of her prom in 1994, teenager Freya McAllister (Navi Rawat) suddenly begins hearing strange voices. As a result, Freya is diagnosed as schizophrenic and squirreled away in a mental hospital, where she remains for the next eight years. Along comes psychologist Michal Welles (Peter Horton), who while treating Freya calmly informs her that she is not insane, but instead telepathic: the voices she'd heard were the thoughts of the people around her. What Dr. Welles doesn't tell Freya--at least not at first--is that he is in the employ of the National Security Agency, which hopes to use Freya's special talents to hunt down potential terrorists! Something of a cerebral La Femme Nikita, Thoughtcrimes may have been intended as the pilot for a television series, but was released on home video before making its USA network TV bow on October 15, 2004. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Russian filmmaker Vadim Perelman makes his feature-film debut with the psychological drama House of Sand and Fog, based on the novel by Andre Dubus III. Ben Kingsley plays Massoud Amir Behrani, an Iranian immigrant living the United States. Even though he was a high-ranking official in Iran, he works several menial jobs in order to provide his wife, Nadi (Shohreh Aghdashloo), and his son, Esmail (Jonathan Ahdout), with an apartment in California. He buys a California bungalow, thinking he can fix it up, sell it again, and make enough money to send Esmail to college. However, the house is the legal property of former drug addict Kathy (Jennifer Connelly). After losing the house in an unfair legal dispute with the county, she is left with nowhere to go. Wanting her house back, she hires a lawyer (Frances Fisher) and befriends a police officer (Ron Eldard). Neither Kathy nor Behrani have broken the law, so they find themselves involved in a difficult moral dilemma. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide
