An inspired spoof of 1960s action cartoons such as "Johnny Quest," The Venture Bros., follows the bizarre mis-adventures of Hank and Dean who believe themselves to be an unusually gifted team of "brains" and "braun" while actually possessing very little of either. The boys travel the world with their renowned scientist-father, Doctor Venture -- and treat even the most mundane situation as a bold new adventure. As a result, they often find themselves in danger with a host of oddball villains -- but rarely find their way out. The rely instead on their body-guard/undercover government agent Brock Sampson, voiced by Patrick Warburton of "The Tick" and "Seinfeld" fame, to save them.

The first new entry in the G.I. Joe franchise for the 21st century--a franchise that stretched back to Hasbro Toys' introduction of the "G.I. Joe" action figure back in 1964, and included three previous cartoon programs--the animated G.I. Joe Sigma 6 was a coproduction of Hasbro and Japan's Gonzo Studios. The "team" concept was carried over from the earlier cartoon versions, as a group of six multiethnic "Joes" (men and women), each endowed with incredible strength and resilience and boasting the latest in secret-agent technology, did weekly battle against their traditional enemies, the minions of the evil organization COBRA. Motivating many of the plotlines was the race between Sigma Six and Cobra to locate the mysterious Power Stones, which yielded unbelievable technological powers. The character lineup on this occasion (eminently adaptable to Hasbro playthings) included, of course, the six main Joes: Duke, Snake Eyes, Tunnel Rat, Long Haul, Heavy Duty and Scarlet. Also on hand were Commander Cobra, Overlord Vector, General Hawk, Kamukara, Hi-Tech, Machete, Destro, Zaratan, Storm Shadow, Torch and Jinx the Ninji, Spirit the Indian, The Baroness, Tomax, Flint, Overkill, Scott, and Spud the Robo Dog. Introduced with a 5-part pilot episode, G.I. Joe Sigma 6 was added to the Fox Network's Saturday-morning "4Kids" cartoon lineup on August 27, 2005. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The half-hour Italian TV cartoon series Winx Club was set in a magical nether world where various colorfully garbed witches, warriors and fairies carried on a neverending good-evil battle. Created by the brilliant but slightly off-kilter Professor Polonium, the Winx Club consisted of good female fairies. Members of the club, who represented their world's Fairy Side included red-headed, compassionate Bloom, yellow-haired sweetie pie Stella, level-headed but insecure Flora, blue-haired, musically inclined Musa, pink-haired technogeek Techna The Winx Club trained at the Cloud Academy side by side with the representatives of the "Warrior Side", among them youthful warrior Prince Sky (who was sweet on Stella), warrior-in-the-making Brandon (who liked Bloom), resident nerd Timmy and obligatory "rebel" Riven. The villains of the piece were the Senior Witches, each endowed with element-controlling powers: blue-haired Icy, brown-haired and psychic Darcy, a black-haired Stormy. Others in the cast were Professor Gryffin, the former teacher of the Senior Witches, who regretted ever showing them how to use their powers; Mr. Knut, the Witches' much-put-upon servant; and Kikko, Bloom's cute little pet bunny (a character obviously inspired by Pokemon's Pikachu). While fast action was the main bill of fare on the series, there was also an abundance of peppy musical numbers. In America, Winx Club was picked up by the Fox network and run on its Saturday-morning schedule beginning June 19, 2004. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The phenomenon of the "pocket monsters" marches on with this animated sci-fi adventure for kids. Famous Pokémon trainer Ash Ketchum (voice of Veronica Taylor) is en route to a special water race for Pokémon in Altomare with his loyal companion, Pikachu, but when they arrive they discover there's bigger game afoot than the race. Annie and Oakley are a pair of female villains determined to steal the all-powerful jewel known as the Soul Dew. However, the jewel is guarded by two especially vigilant Pokémon, Latios and Latias, so the thieves must capture the creatures before they can make off with the enchanted artifact. Annie and Oakley are able to put Latios in captivity, but not before Ash and his friends arrive on the scene. Will Ash and Pikachu be able to free Latios before the thieves can capture the Soul Dew and use its power to control all they survey? Pokémon Heroes is the fifth feature film released in the United States based on the popular Pokemon animé series. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Magical Do-Re-Mi was the English-language title of the half-hour anime series which debuted in Japan as Oja majo doremi in 1999. The series focused on a trio of young girls who were training to be witches (benevolent ones, we hope). Doremi Harukaze was clearly the protagonist, having urged her best friends Aiko Senoo and Hazuki Fujikawa to join her in her magical apprenticeship. Although "witchling" Doremi did her best to learn her trade from her mentor Marjorika in the Magic Hall, Doremi was the self-proclaimed "unluckiest girl in the world", and was weighed down by her unhappy home life; these shortcomings more than anything else, held her back from her ultimate goal. In the English version of the series, Doremi Harukaze became Dorie Goodwyn, Aiko was Mirabelle Haywood, Hazuki was Reanne Griffith, and Majorika was Patina. In America, Magical Do-Re-Mi joined Fox's "4Kids" Saturday-morning schedule on September 10, 2005. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
