As one of three Jack Kerouac motion pictures to be released in the U.S. within a six-month span, this offbeat drama from writer-director Michael Polish (Northfork) cinematizes Kerouac's 1962 novel of the same name. While the original tome enlisted pseudonyms for the real-life literary figures, however, the movie version dispenses with aliases. The film finds Kerouac (Jean-Marc Barr) disenchanted with the Beat mythos and hounded from all corners by fans who hunt him down and demand his autograph. In need of solace, he slips into self-imposed exile, via a retreat at his friend Lawrence Ferlinghetti's (Anthony Edwards) cabin in seaside Big Sur, California. Within a few days' time, however, he grows equally restless there and heads back to San Francisco to fraternize with Ferlinghetti and other buddies, including Neal Cassady (Josh Lucas), a married man who introduces Jack to his mistress, beautiful single mother Billie (Kate Bosworth). Jack and Billie fall for one another instantly, and begin a passionate affair, but over the following days, Jack slips into an inexorable funk, sitting in an armchair for an inordinate amount of time and refusing to move or function. Ultimately, he suggests to Billie that they try to return to Big Sur once more, to recapture the magic of the past; the young woman agrees, though she desperately wants Jack to settle down and start a family with her, and it remains entirely unclear if he's capable of doing so. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

Taking home a paycheck that nearly rivals the budget of the first film, Reese Witherspoon reprises the role of Elle Woods in this sequel to 2001's surprise blockbuster Legally Blonde. When she's fired from her job at an upscale law firm for voicing her stance against the testing of cosmetics on animals, Elle heads to Capitol Hill to fight for her cause before Congress, leaving her boyfriend, Emmett (Luke Wilson, reprising his role from the film's predecessor), behind. Once there, she runs into plenty of adversity and red-tape and can't seem to find anyone who will listen to her proposals. While staying at the Watergate hotel though, she meets and befriends an elderly bellman (Bob Newhart in his first theatrical role since 1997's In & Out) who's been around politicians long enough to know the ins and outs of the political machine. With his help, Elle attempts to convince disillusioned U.S. Representative Rudd (Sally Field) to help her get her voice heard in front of the stodgy old coots of the legislative branch. Directed by Charles Herman-Wurmfeld hot off the success of his critically acclaimed indie comedy Kissing Jessica Stein, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde boasts a supporting cast led by Jennifer Coolidge (Best in Show, American Pie) and Regina King (Jerry Maguire, Daddy Day Care). ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi

The apocalypse has befallen the planet and only one detective with the power of heaven on his side can save the survivors from the hellish inferno that awaits them in this supernatural thriller from Detroit filmmaker Douglas Schulze. The death of his wife and son had driven Officer Gabriel Goodman to a dark place where the outside world seemed to disappear and only pain and sorrow remained. When Officer Goodman awakens one morning to discover a deserted city void of life and eerily silent, he is drawn to a nearby church where a small band of survivors struggle against the raging demonic forces seeking to possess the last few living souls. As the devil's grip on the forsaken planet tightens, only one man with the power of angels on his side can save mankind from an infernal fate where evil reigns and good withers. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
