A college student inherits a mysterious machine with deadly powers, and races to save his friends when someone begins using it to seek bloody revenge. Shortly after Ben Rutherford's father passes away, the young student is bequeathed a machine known as "La Vaudou Mort". Later, after showing the bizarre inheritance to his friends, "La Vaudou Mort" vanishes without a trace. Later, as Ben attempts to figure out who would have stolen the machine, he learns that his best friend Ryan has suffered a horrific death. With the help of his archeology Professor Banyon, Ben learns that "La Vaudou Mort" was built in the 19th Century by an engineer named "Rubinstein" who had powerful ties to the occult. He created the machine as a weapon of revenge, and now someone has begun using it against Ben and his friends - but why? With the help of his estranged brother Marcus, Ben begins searching frantically for "La Vaudou Mort" and attempts to save the lives of the few friends he still has left. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Das Experiment screenwriter Mario Giordano works with writer/director Paul Scheuring to craft this remake based on the notorious Stanford Prison Experiment. A team of scientists are conducting a psychological experiment that requires the participation of 20 subjects. The rules are simple: one group of subjects will be assigned the role of prison guards, while the others will be assigned the role of inmates. Though the guards are specifically instructed to maintain order without the use of force, no one is prepared for what happens when mutiny erupts, and civility erodes. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

The series The Beast stars Patrick Swayze as a freethinking but always effective FBI officer who's training a new recruit in the ways of the Bureau. Razor sharp and brutally clever, he'd be at the top of his game if he weren't the constant subject of an Internal Affairs investigation. ~ Cammila Collar, Rovi

A pair of desperate fugitives takes a hostage whose dark past gives him a distinct advantage over his captors in this twisting thriller starring former television Tarzan Travis Fimmel. Dale and Ron foolishly thought that by taking a hostage they could increase their chances of survival, but when would-be pawn Andrew takes an unexpected liking to the criminal couple, it doesn't take long for them to realize that they may have just made a fatal mistake. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

2003

The third live-action TV series based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' immortal "King of the Jungle" (there had also been a few cartoon series and innumerable theatrical features), the WB network's Tarzan offered a few new up-to-date spins on the classic canon. Orphaned in the jungle as an infant, John Clayton (played by male model Travis Fimmel) was raised by apes and came to maturity as the resourceful Tarzan. All this changed when John/Tarzan was captured by his uncle, billionaire industrialist Richard Clayton (Mitch Pileggi), and flown to New York City, there to take his rightful place as the heir apparent of the vast Greystoke business enterprises. As uncomfortable as Tarzan felt in his new civilized surroundings, it was nothing compared to the discomfiture expressed by Richard Clayton's sister, acid-tongued publisher Katherine Clayton (Lucy Lawless), who wished that Tarzan would return whence he came so that she could take over Greystoke. At last fed up by all the inter-family squabbling and backstabbing, Tarzan escaped to the concrete jungle known as Manhattan, where he befriended feisty female NYPD detective Jane Porter (Sarah Wayne Callies). Ultimately, Me-Tarzan teamed with You-Jane to track down elusive criminals, while Jane's detective boyfriend, Michael Foster (Johnny Messner), and her official partner, Sam Sullivan (Miguel Nunez Jr.), expressed dismay at the girl's newfound bravado -- and while Jane's younger sister, aspiring actress Nicki Porter (Leighton Meester), lolled around awaiting her next "damsel in distress" assignment. The new Tarzan swung into view on October 5, 2003. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
