More "twentysomething sexual angst" in the tradition of Friends, the Fox sitcom Happy Hour also borrowed elements from The Odd Couple. The focus was on a pair of mismatched male roommates, described by the network publicity flacks thusly: "one disappointed by love, one blinded by love." The "disappointed" one was Henry Beckman (John Sloan), who after breaking up with girlfriend Heather (Brooke D'Orsay) moved in with his party-animal buddy Larry Cone (Lex Medlin). Having just lost a roommate named Brad (Nat Faxon), who defected in favor of marriage, Larry welcomed Henry as "The New Brad," assuming that both shared the same viewpoint about the opposite sex; they didn't, of course, and therein lay the series' comic contrast. Other cast members included Beth Lacke as Larry's main squeeze Amanda, and Jamie Denbo as the roommates' somewhat deranged next-door neighbor Tina. Created by Tim Kelleher, the UPN sitcom Rock Me Baby starred Dan Cortese as Jimmy, a popular Mancow-like morning radio shock-jock to whom nothing was sacred on the air. Though a professional gadfly, Jimmy went all soft and mushy when his lovely wife Beth (Biana Kjalich) presented him with a bouncing baby son named Otis. This placed Jimmy in a bind: If he poked cruel fun at his family during his radio program, he risked incurring the wrath of Beth; but if he didn't, he faced the ire of his partner Carl (Carl Anthony Payne) and his boss Boyle (Joey Slotnick). Sexy but mercurial model Janine (Elle MacPherson) invites her roommate, Joey (Matt LeBlanc), to join her for Dick Clark's perennial "Rockin' New Year's Eve" gala -- slated to be taped several weeks before the big ball drops on Times Square. In a related incident, a dream long held by Ross (David Schwimmer) and Monica (Courteney Cox) is about to come true, leading to a state of euphoria that may be hazardous for both of them. This episode ends with one of Friends' obligatory "water cooler conversation" moments. ~ All Movie Guide
