First-year med student Lucy Knight (Kellie Martin) stumbles and bumbles her way through her first emergency-room rotation at Chicago's County General as ER launches it fifth season. Getting off to a bad start by clumsily trying to help a bleeding man on the street before her shift even begins, Lucy can't seem to do anything right at all. She manages to alienate her supervisor, the newly bearded Carter (Noah Wyle), stumbles into a clandestine romantic rendezvous, blurts out the fact that a patient is terminal to the patient's nonplussed wife, and is equally undiplomatic with a woman who may have suffered her third miscarriage. And there's still several hours of her shift to go. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Director Ron Maxwell and producer Ted Turner return to the glory and tragedy of the Civil War in this historical drama, a prequel to Gettysburg, which examines the early days of the conflict through the experiences of three men. Col. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain (Jeff Daniels) left behind a quiet life and a career as a college professor to become one of the Union's greatest military minds. Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson (Stephen Lang) was, like Chamberlain, a man of great religious faith who served in the defense of the Confederacy. And Gen. Robert E. Lee (Robert Duvall), who led the Confederate army, was a man who was forced to choose between his loyalty to the United States and his love of the Southern states where he was born and raised. As Chamberlain, Jackson, and Lee are followed through the declaration of war and the battles at Manassas, Antietam, Frederickburg, and Chancellorsville, the film also introduces us to the many supporting players in the epic tale of the war between the States, among them the women these men left behind, among them Fanny Chamberlain (Mira Sorvino) and Anna Jackson (Kali Rocha). Based on a novel by Jeff Shaara, Gods and Generals also features a new song written and performed by Bob Dylan. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Dr. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) again shows her (usually well-concealed!) tender side as she counsels a young breast-cancer victim (Justina Machado) suffering from depression. Later on, Bailey receives some strong moral support as she stands before an M&M board, defending herself from charges that she was responsible for the death of Denny Duquette. Elsewhere, It is revealed that the talented Dr. Sloan (Eric Dane) has not only been dallying with Addison (Kate Walsh), but also with Callie (Sara Ramirez); Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) decides to call it quits with Finn, and later teams with Addison to separate a divorced couple (Arye Gross, Faith Prince) who have become embarrassingly "stuck on each other"; and Izzie (Katherine Heigl) is still recovering from the news that Denny has left her $8.7 million. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

A group of ambitious film-school graduates plot to get their big break in Hollywood by becoming the very thing they most despise in this satirical showbiz comedy from writer/director Steve Morris. Three years after graduating from film school, Jack and his friends are still answering phones when they should be making movies. After jokingly whipping up some script coverage for a nonexistent screenplay, the hungry Hollywood underlings are horrified to learn that Jack's boss has somehow come into possession of the piece. Now the time has come to put up or shut up, so with their jobs on the line and their futures wide open the gang plots to turn their phony script coverage into a major feature. Unfortunately, getting the green light in Hollywood is never easy, and it doesn't take the gang long to realize that in order to get their film on the fast track to production, they'll need to become just as ruthless and uncompromising as the callous producers who have made their lives in L.A. a living hell. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
