The late Robert Urich completed work on this cable-TV movie only a few days before undergoing cancer surgery. Set in the early months of the Great Depression, the story involves Angus Feagan (Urich), a Detroit family man who has lost both his job and his freedom. Arrested for a crime he didn't commit, Feagan finds that his fate is in the hands of his three children, who in their efforts to get their dad sprung before Christmas are set upon enlisting the aid of no less than President Herbert Hoover (Thomas Peacocke). In this spirit, the youngsters set out for Washington DC--and when their mother (Diane Scarwid) finds out, a frantic thousand-mile chase ensues. In fine old Frank Capra tradition, the kids encounter a variety of eccentric characters en route to the White House, all played by actors whose faces are reassuringly familiar, even if their names are not. After several rocky years, divorced farmer Stephen Landis (Tom Selleck) seems to have gotten his life together: His business is thriving, and his personal life has found stability and support in the form of his current girlfriend, Leah (Anna Gunn), and her teenaged daughter, Roxanne (Tegan Moss). Things change radically when Dulcie (Maggie Grace), Stephen's 16-year-old daughter from his first marriage, comes to stay at his farm for the summer. The girl's disruptive and self-destructive behavior, coupled with Stephen's ingrown feelings of guilt, threatens to ruin his present life and blight his future -- until fate, and a driving rainstorm, intervene. A woman trying to escape traumatic memories from her past finds history repeating itself in this gory horror story. Joan Burrows (Brittney Wilson) was an ordinary teenager growing up in a small Colorado town until she and a friend were abducted by Ernie Bishop, who ran the local funeral parlor. Joan and her friend discovered to their horror that Ernie was a violent lunatic who performed elaborate torture rituals on young women, and while Joan was able to escape with her life, her friend was killed. Sixteen years later, Joan (now played by Angela Bettis), who bears a facial scar and vivid memories of the attack, returns home for the first time to visit her older brother Jeff (Christopher Titus) and his daughter Olympia (Kirby Bliss Blanton), who has been voted queen of the local high school's senior prom. However, the mutilated bodies of Olympia's friends and classmates are soon littering the town, and both Joan and Jeff suspect that Ernie is back and up to his old tricks. Aspiring veterinarian Maya Dolittle (Kyla Pratt) gets caught up in the glitz and glamour of the Hollywood scene after using her special skills as a "dog whisperer" to help a celebrity starlet's depressed Chihuahua. All Maya ever wanted to do was help animals. Mata's veterinarian ambitions get unexpectedly sidelined, however, when she's summoned to Hollywood by heiress Tiffany Monaco (Tegan Moss) and offered her own reality television series. But just as Maya prepares to put her higher education on hold, her loyal four-legged friend Lucky helps her to realize that Tiffany's idea of "helping" animals isn't doing the critters on her show any good.
