Abhishek Bachchan Movies

Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan could be famous simply for being the husband of knockout actress and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai, but it just so happens that he's also one of the most famous, successful, and above all, prolific figures in the Bollywood film community as well. Extremely well educated, Bachchan attended Jamnabai Narsee School, Bombay Scottish School in Mumbai, Modern School in Vasant Vihar, New Delhi, and Aiglon College in Switzerland. He also went to Boston University, where he intended to complete his education, but he opted instead to leave school and seize the opportunity to jump-start his acting career. He began with films like Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke and Refugee in 2000, and though he wouldn't rise to prominence until his performance in 2004's Yuva, he would appear in no less than 20 films over the course of his first five years in the industry. ~ Cammila Albertson, All Movie Guide

Love and dreams follow two starry-eyed actors across three decades and two incarnations in this splashy Hindi musical. It's the early Seventies, and Om Prakash Makhija (Shah Rukh Khan) is a young would-be actor who has been playing bit parts in Bollywood musicals while looking for his big break. Om's ambition is to become a film star and win the heart of beautiful screen siren Shantipriya (Deepika Padukone), and his pal Pappu (Shreyas Talpade) and his mother Bela (Kirron Kher) both encourage him not to give up on his dreams. One day, Om meets Shantipriya on a movie set, and he feels as if destiny is finally smiling on him, but when he overhears her having an argument with studio chief Mukesh Mehra (Arjun Rampal), Om senses things are not as they should be. Before Om can decide what to make of his misgivings, the studio burns to the ground, claiming the lives of Om and Shantipriya. Thirty years later, a bit of Om's spirit seems to live on in Om Kapoor (also played by Shah Rukh Khan) a popular film actor with a large ego and a fear of flame who was born the day the old studio burned down. Despite his fame, Om is lonely, at least until he meets Sandhya (also played by Deepika Padukone), a shy but eager would-be actress looking for her chance to become a star. Om Shanti Om was directed and co-written by Farah Khan, who was a top choreographer in the Indian film industry before moving up to the director's chair, and features guest spots from a number of Bollywood's greatest stars, a few appearing in the form of digital recreations taken from films of the Seventies. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Director Apoorva Lakhia teams with screenwriters Suresh Nair and Sanjay Gupta to offer a harrowing account of the stand-off that found suburban Mumbai transformed into an urban war zone. The year is 1991, and as the summer sun shines down on the Lokhandwala Complex, five hardened thieves count their most recent take in flat 32B. The sum is substantial, yet this skilled team of extortionists led by criminal masterminds Maya and Dilip will never live to enjoy the fruits of their nefarious labor. Just outside, 286 heavily armed policemen await permission to open fire; when that permission is granted by renegade lawman ACP Khan, this history of this city will be changed in the time it takes to pull a trigger. Six hours later, when the smoke cleared on the massacre, the criminals who raised a red flag within Khan's newly formed ATS squad for daring to go against the most fearsome figures in the underworld would finally be off the streets - but at what cost? A hardened policeman who recruited only the most fearless lawmen to aid him in taking down ruthless Khalistini extremists, Khan would later be charged with multiple human rights violations for his reckless bravado in addition to becoming the subject of an inquisition from his own department. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Indian director Karan Johar's three-hour feature Never Say Goodbye (Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna) utilizes and celebrates the common Bollywood practice of combining multiple genres and elements - comedy, drama, romance and flashy musical numbers - into one picture of epic length, to maximize cinema's capacity for entertainment. The story concerns two Manhattan couples. Soccer player Dev (Shah Rukh Khan) and his magazine editor wife, Rhea (Preity Zinta) are happily married despite occasional stress on the relationship; PR executive Rishi (Abhishek Bachan) and preschool teacher Maya (Rani Mukherji) feel their marriage strained by her inability to conceive. But the couples' worlds are turned upside down when Dev and Maya meet and fall hopelessly -- wondering how they ever lived without one another. Meanwhile, Dev's father Samarjit (Amitabh Bachchan) - who lives for pleasure and satisfaction at the expense of others' feelings - complicates matters by encouraging his son's new relationship. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

A master swindler tries to pass his talent on to another with unexpected results in this comedy drama from India. Roy Kapoor (Abhishek Bachchan) is a talented confidence man who has built a successful career out of fooling people about who he really is and what he really wants. When some sordid business from Roy's past comes back to haunt him, he loses Simmi and begins to wonder about his future. While Aditya may be a con man, he is a rank amateur compared to Roy, and Aditya begs him to teach him all he knows about the trade. Unsettled by losing Simmi, Roy agrees, but the sloppy and inept Aditya is not as especially good student, though the two become close friends as they share their knowledge of the con game. Roy soon learns the hard way, however, that the worst thing a con artist can do is start trusting someone. Sanjana (Kareena Kapoor) is a spirited young Indian woman who has just graduated from college. While she respects her father, Satya (Pankaj Kapur), and her mother, Susheela (Himani Shivpuri), she wants to forge her own path. When they arrange for her to meet a wealthy businessman for possible marriage, she plots with her four close girlfriends (Arti Avashti, Kusumit Sana, Parizad C. Kolah, and Rituv Kambow) to expose the young man's weaknesses and chase him away. But when Prem (Hrithik Roshan, who co-starred with Kapoor in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham...) shows up, he's exuberantly friendly, athletic, and handsome; and soon, to her parents' delight, Sanjana finds herself falling in love. Just when it seems like a happy ending is in store for everyone, news comes that the wealthy businessman never showed up after all, but sent his not-so-wealthy assistant and friend, also named Prem, in his place. Susheela is determined to end whatever is beginning between Sanjana and the first Prem, so that Sanjana can marry the wealthier Prem (Abhishek Bachnan, who made his film debut opposite Kapoor in Refugee), who turns out to be a very reserved young man, but one who has a poet's soul and longs for love. For comic relief, there's also a computer-generated parrot and a partly animated dog with the same name as Prem's assistant, Johnny (Johnny Lever). Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon was written and directed by Sooraj R. Barjatya, the grandson of Rajshri Productions founder Shri Tarachand Barjatya. It was his fourth feature with a hero named Prem, but the first in which Prem was not played by Salman Khan. Anu Malik composed the score. While the film, expected to be a blockbuster, fared somewhat disappointingly at the Indian box office, it did exceptionally well in Great Britain and the United States. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide
