John F. Kennedy Movies

2008

In 1960, filmmaker Robert Drew began work on a documentary called Primary which concerned that year's presidential campaign; one of the candidates, John F. Kennedy, gave Drew and his crew free access to film both their public campaign events and their private strategy sessions, and it was the beginning of a close working relationship between Drew and Kennedy. Drew would go on to make three more films about Kennedy after he was elected president -- Adventures on the New Frontier, Crisis: Behind a Presidential Commitment and Faces of November -- with the cooperation of Kennedy and his staff, and in 2008 Drew revisited his footage of the late president to create a cinematic portrait of one of the most iconic figures in American politics. Narrated by Alec Baldwin, A President To Remember: In The Company Of John F. Kennedy was edited from Drew's archival footage of Kennedy, and captures the president both at work and with his family, offering an insight into both the leader and the man. A President To Remember: In The Company Of John F. Kennedy was an official selection at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

He was the youngest president, certainly one of the most loved and admired. His residency in the White House was surrounded by the aura of Camelot, and his life seemed charmed and the stuff of legend. But there were detractors and vocal critics throughout his abbreviated term. In American Presidents: John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Kennedy's presidency is scrutinized, with an emphasis on his handling of the troublesome international aspects of his administration, including the Bay of Pigs, the Cuban missile crisis, the Berlin crisis, and the situation in Southeast Asia. ~ Alice Day, Rovi

Archival news footage and a review of John Kennedy's adulterous liaisons with various beautiful women serve as lead-in to this examination of allegations that America's 35th president was, as a young naval officer during World War II, romantically involved with a Nazi spy named Inga Arvad. Arvad was a beautiful Danish reporter who is, according to the program, "the most unusual, mysterious and intriguing" woman JFK ever romanced. She had associations with Adolf Hitler, and the program claims that President Roosevelt instructed FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover to keep her under 24-hour surveillance. ~ Steve Blackburn, Rovi

President John F. Kennedy was perhaps one of America's most gifted leaders and speakers. His charm and intellect allowed him to draw audiences in with both clear reason and quiet humor. This video includes many of his most important speeches from his 1960 campaign for president, though most are just captured in fairly short clips. Once these speeches are reviewed, it becomes clear that Kennedy was one of the most talented public speakers of the 20th century. His mastery is perhaps best captured in his "New Frontier," "Ich bin ein Berliner," and his speech about America's determination to successfully fly to the moon. Though his life was cut painfully short by assassination, this video helps JFK's political greatness live on indefinitely. ~ Elizabeth Smith, Rovi

This documentary offers an "as it happened" look at one of the crucial standoffs in the history of the American Civil Rights movement, as Alabama Governor George Wallace refuses to desegregate his state's schools in 1963, openly defying the edict of U.S. President John F. Kennedy. Directed by Robert Drew, Crisis: Behind a Presidential Commitment features vintage footage of Wallace and Kennedy, as well as James Hood and Vivian Malone, the two African-American students refused admission to an otherwise all-white school by Wallace. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
