Producer/writer/director Carl Bessai mines the richly textured terrain of mother/daughter relationships to craft this ensemble comedy focusing on three distinctly different mother/daughter pairings. Micki (Babs Chula) is a high-strung writer of pulp romance novels whose actress daughter Rebecca (Camille Sullivan) finds her mother completely overwhelming. Meanwhile, dedicated housewife Brenda (Gabrielle Rose) is taken aback by her husband's announcement that he is leaving her for a younger woman, and can't understand why unsympathetic daughter Kate (Tiffany Lyndall-Knight) seems more devastated by the news than she. Lastly, self-sufficient Métis businesswoman Celine (Tantoo Cardinal) begins to suspects that her latest client, a young professional named Cynthia (Tinsel Korey), who was adopted into a white household as a young girl, may in fact be her long-lost granddaughter. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

In a Vancouver neighborhood where the middle class share the streets with small-time criminals, prostitutes, and drug-dealers, the lives of three radically different couples interconnect in ways which can only be defined by looking at the big picture. Shortly after Doug (Ben Ratner) and Sarah (Camille Sullivan) move into their Mount Pleasant home with their six-year old daughter, the curious youngster pricks herself with a used hypodermic needle found in the backyard. Meanwhile, four blocks away, heroic-addicted teenage prostitute Nadia (Katie Boland) shares a ramshackle house with her drug dealing boyfriend and pimp Nick (Tygh Runyan). One of Nadia's best customers is affluent john Stephen Burrows (Shawn Doyle, whose high-class wife Anne (Kelly Rowan) works as a full time social coordinator and thirteen year-old daughter is maturing so fast that her preoccupied mother and father barely have time to notice. Their lives on an unexpected collision course, these Mount Pleasant residents are all about to find out that just how drastically their lives can be affected by people they would never even known existed if not for the intervention of fate. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

A vampiric transgen named Marrow (Sam Witwer) has enslaved a gang of street kids, addicting them to regular doses of his superhuman blood, which they drink as if it were a beverage. Capturing Max (Jessica Alba), Marrow informs her that he intends to use his "perfect," Manticore-generated blood for an all-out war against the non-transgens. He also offers to release Max, provided she hand over his current "chick" Rain (Keegan Connor Tracy) -- but there is far more at stake here than your average hostage exchange. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
