Not long after DuPont Show of the Month's production of Thornton Wilder's The Bridge of San Luis Rey, another fictional story concerning the real-life 18th century Peruvian actress La Perichole was brought to the small screen, this time by the NBC fine-arts anthology Omnibus. Adapted from the opera by Jacques Offenbach, "La Perichole" stars Laurel Hurley, who spends most of the action fending off the advances of a lecherous Viceroy. The latter character is played by Cyril Ritchard (the unforgettable Captain Hook in the Mary Martin version of Peter Pan, who also staged this particular production. The 90-minute La Perichole originally aired live. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
