Though Green is not a qualified plastic surgeon, the current medical laws allow him to perform such operations whether he's capable of doing them or not. After being briefly pre-empted by the debut telecast of Roots, Streets of San Francisco returned to the ABC prime time fold with this tense psychological drama focusing on Douglas French (Alan Fudge), a chronic alcoholic and wife-beater. Awakening from a hangover, French discovers that his wife Helen (Marlyn Mason) has disappeared. Chris Munger directed this blaxploitation version of the popular skinflick Starlet! (1969). The story concerns Clara (Juanita Brown), an aspiring actress from the housing projects of Gary, Indiana, who goes to Hollywood in search of fame and fortune. Predictably, she is robbed, betrayed, and must hit the casting couch before her dreams can come true. The fifth and last of the original series of motion pictures based upon author Pierre Boulle's imaginative novel Monkey Planet, this science fiction film was the least-liked by the series' legion of fans. Roddy McDowall returns as Caesar, the rebellious intelligent chimp of the previous film, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972). Caesar led his brethren in a revolution against their human masters earlier, but humanity has since nearly destroyed itself in a nuclear apocalypse, and survivors are second-class citizens within ape society. Now a beneficent ruler of his people, Caesar encourages a fragile, peaceful coexistence with humans, despite the protests of militaristic gorilla leader General Aldo (Claude Akins). When Caesar learns that recordings of his murdered parents may exist in the Forbidden City, he journeys to the irradiated wasteland with the human MacDonald (Austin Stoker) and the wise orangutan Virgil (Paul Williams). Although Caesar finds what he's looking for, he also attracts unwanted attention: mutant humans who still dwell underground in the devastated war zone follow the search party back home, leading to a climactic battle and Aldo's tragic challenge of Caesar's authority. Suffering greatly due to penny-pinching studio 20th Century Fox's low budget, Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973) is most notable for a cameo by director John Huston as an ape named "The Lawgiver," who appears in a wraparound segment. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

The made-for-TV Women in Chains is strictly for those who enjoy knowing what's coming next. Lois Nettelton stars as a probation officer investigating prison conditions. To better facilitate her studies, she adopts an assumed name and has herself thrown into jail as a convict. Ida Lupino (but of course) is the sadistic head of the prison. The only outside person who knows of Lois' subterfuge dies, leaving the hapless heroine at the mercy of Lupino and the vicious female cons. Typical of the "realism" inherent in Women in Chains is the casting of ebullient young actress Judy Strangis as a strung-out junkie. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In order to prevent Dr. Oswald Beck (David Hurst) from inaugurating wholesale bacteriological warfare against the Free World, IMF agent Rollin takes the place of a political prisoner chosen as Beck's guinea pig. To discredit Beck, Phelps and his colleagues are forced to make certain that the experiment is failure. Unfortunately, this assignment may well cost Rollin his life, no matter how it turns out. CBS' first made-for-TV movie, Sole Survivor is a fantasy yarn founded on fact. In 1960, the ruins of an American bomber were found in the Libyan desert...but the remains of the crew were never located. In Guerdon Trueblood's teleplay, the ghosts of a bomber crew hang around their derelict plane, awaiting the day that their bones will be recovered and given a decent burial. The sole survivor, navigator Russell Hamner (Richard Basehart), has in the intervening 25 years become a general. He joins an investigation team that has come across the wreckage, while the ghosts plot to expose Hamner as a coward who deserted his post and left his crew mates to die. Ironside (Raymond Burr) launches an investigation when his psychologist friend Paul Bragen (Noah Keen) is murdered. It seems that the dead man possessed a large collection of rare artworks, created by several artists whom he had been consulting. The title character in this Mission: Impossible episode is Raymond Calder (Edmond O'Brien), the unscrupulous manufacturer of counterfeit drugs. Distressed that Calder has exploited the needs of the desperately ill, his former colleague Dr. McConnell (Noah Keen) conspires with the IMF agents to hoist Calder on his own petard. "The Counterfeiter" was one of several excellent episodes scripted by the team of William Read Woodfield and Allan Balter, working from a story by Lily Woodfield and Joseph Gantman. Jeannie (Barbara Eden) wants Tony (Larry Hagman) to take her to a Parisian restaurant, but he is slated to remain at NASA headquarters for a top-secret meeting about "Operation Galaxy". Resourcefullly, Jeannie creates two Tonys, one to fulfill his astronaut duties, the other to escort her to the restaurant.
