In his second bid for sitcom stardom (the first was the late, unlamented Encore! Encore!), Broadway favorite Nathan Lane starred as Charlie Lawrence, a gay TV actor who forsook his popular weekly series "Guppy Sherman" to enter politics. Appointed to fill out the term of a recently deceased New Mexico congressman, Charlie did his best to use his showbiz savvy to cut through the deeply ingrained B.S. of Washington, D.C., and sometimes actually succeeded. The cookie-cutter supporting characters included Sarah (Laurie Metcalf), Charlie's uptight, no-nonsense chief of staff; Charlie's neighbor and friend Graydon Cord (Ted McGinley), a politician who happened to be a member of the loyal opposition; ditzy office manager Suzette Michaels (Stephanie Faracy), who couldn't see past Charlie's carefully cultivated TV image; and klutzy office intern Ryan Lemming (T.R. In desperate need of a vacation after being unceremoniously dumped by his TV-star girlfriend, a man travels to a lavish Hawaiian resort to nurse his wounds and forget his heartache, only to discover that his ex and her handsome new boyfriend are currently staying at the exact same island hot spot. Peter Bretter (Jason Segel) may be just another struggling musician, but for the past six years he's been dating Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell), one of the hottest stars on television. Sarah is everything in the world to Peter, so when she kindly but firmly tells him that they should each go their separate ways, he is absolutely devastated. Later, after attempting to salvage his ego by awkwardly attempting to become a womanizer and nearly losing his job because of a nervous breakdown, an emotionally fragile Peter attempts to put the past behind him by escaping to the sun-soaked beaches of Oahu. While at first it seems as if Peter has discovered the perfect prescription for a bad case of lost love, his plan soon turns to dust when Sarah and her new rock-star boyfriend, Aldous (Russell Brand), turn up at the exact same resort. Though accepting Sarah's lavish new lifestyle won't be easy for the crestfallen Peter, the laid-back companionship of flirtatious resort employee Rachel (Mila Kunis) -- not to mention a continuous regimen of fruity cocktails -- goes a long way in mending the wounds of a broken heart. A not-so-ordinary family finds a new way of paying the bills in this comedy. Dick Harper (Jim Carrey) and his wife, Jane (Téa Leoni), would seem to have it made -- Dick has a high-paying job, they live in an expensive house in the suburbs, they have two luxury cars in the driveway, and a housekeeper, Blanca (Gloria Garayua), to help look after their son, Billy. But Dick and Jane's fairy-tale life crashes head-on into reality when the firm Dick works for turns out to have been using unscrupulous accounting methods to disguise the fact they've been losing money hand over fist, and Dick has been made the fall guy for some of their dirty dealings. Suddenly flat broke, Dick and Jane must find a new way to support their lavish lifestyle, and in time they discover just the thing -- crime.
