Director James Cotten recruits an all-star roster for this crime thriller set along the Mexican-American border. Mexican drug lord Pelon has managed to escape the ire of the American government, but his decision to switch from cocaine from Colombia to heroin from Afghanistan attracts their attention. Numerous assassins come for the man's blood, but Pelon evades them all. Hitman Mark Shields sets himself apart from the pack with 20 years of killing experience, but he becomes distracted by the presence of a woman and her daughter. A handful of New Yorkers find their paths crossing in ways that force them to examine their lives in this contemporary drama produced by Ismail Merchant. Isabel (Elizabeth Banks) is a twentysomething photographer who is supposed to marry her boyfriend, Jonathan (James Marsden), in a month. But Isabel has found herself wondering if marriage is the right thing for her. Meanwhile, her mother, Diana (Glenn Close), a well-known film actress, has learned her husband has been seeing another woman, and while they have an open relationship, Diana finds this hurtful. Over the course of the day, Diana meets Alec (Jesse Bradford), a handsome young actor, and Isabel is introduced to Peter (John Light), a journalist, and both women begin to question their current relationships. Adam (George Hertzberg) now controls Riley (Marc Blucas) via a chip implanted in his arm by Dr. Walsh (Lindsay Crouse). His plan to create an army of half human/half demon is finally revealed along with new recruits Forrest (Leonard Roberts) and Dr. Walsh. Meanwhile, Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) meets up with Giles (Anthony Head), Willow (Alyson Hannigan), and Xander (Nicholas Brendon). After comparing notes, the group realizes they've been tricked by Spike (James Marsters) into being angry with each other. They also piece together Adam's evil plan and break into the Initiative compound to put it to an end. They are captured by Initiative commandos and at the same time Adam releases the demons and chaos ensues. Needless to say, Spike's chip stays implanted. During the final battle sequence, Willow, Xander, and Giles magically imbue Buffy with heightened supernatural powers that seem correlate to each character's best personality trait. ~ All Movie Guide
