Erstwhile "James Bond" Roger Moore guest stars as Edward Poole, an SD-9 leader who has startling information about a turncoat in the Alliance of Twelve. Elsewhere, Sydney (Jennifer Garner) is not the only one who is astonished to find her own image on a sketch drawn 500 years earlier by the prophetic Milo Rambaldi. The text surrounding the sketch is partially decoded, revealing an ominous message regarding the fate of the world. This first episode of The Drew Carey Show's sixth season wastes no time plunging the title character in deep doo-doo yet once more. Under pressure to balance Winfred-Louder's budget, store manager Mr. Wick ($Craig Ferguson) orders his assistant Drew (Drew Carey) to fire someone. When Drew can't bring himself to do it, Wick diabolically arranges for the employees to demand that Drew himself be sacked--just as he has purchased an engagement ring for Kate (Christa Miller). Unable to find a decent job thanks to lies circulated by his traditional enemy Mimi (Kathy Kinney), Drew is reduced to working in the cafeteria at his former high school, a chore that proves to be as sloppy as it is humiliating. Taking a breather from the increasingly soap-operatic plot entanglements of the Faith (Eliza Dushka) story line, "Earshot" displays the simpler spirit of season one. After battling a couple of fish-like demons, Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) kills one rather messily, with some green demon ooze soaking into her hand. Over the next week, Buffy begins to be able to read students' minds; Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) informs her that the ooze probably imbued her with the telepathic powers of the demons. At first the thoughts are benign, then in the cafeteria, she hears someone think, "This time tomorrow, I'll kill you all." Other people in the school, including a teacher, voice similar sentiments -- setting up red herrings -- as Buffy and friends attempt to find the disturbed person. This allows for some comic scenes such as when Xander (Nicholas Brendon) utilizes the situation to question girls on their turn-ons and date choices. It also leads to Buffy finding out that her mother had sex with Giles on the hood of a police car while under the influence of tainted snacks (see "Band Candy"). Buffy is soon receiving too many telepathic voices to make sense of them and will be driven insane if the power doesn't go away. ~ All Movie Guide

Season five of Frasier begins with the entire KACL staff looking for new jobs after the station installs a "salsa" music format and fires them en masse. This situation is particularly painful for radio psychologist Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer), especially since it was he who was largely responsible for his co-workers' plight. As he sends out resumes and vainly awaits for potential employers to beat a path to his door, Frasier tries to lessen his grief by spending his spare time in such pursuits as cooking and furniture design -- while everyone around him wonders how much of Frasier's anger, denial, and frustration they will able to withstand. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
