Sara Simmonds Movies

Something of an indie film darling (and mainstay) during the mid- to late 2000s, fair-haired actress Sara Simmonds debuted with a supporting role in Alex Holdridge's slacker-themed romantic comedy Sexless (2003), then signed for her first lead as an adolescent girl plagued and troubled by bizarre spiritual visions in Nathan Todd Sims' Christian-themed thriller Echoes of Innocence (2005). Simmonds then played her first romantic lead as the soul mate of a washed-up Craigslist user, with whom she experiences an unforgettable New Year's Eve on the town, in Alex Holdridge's low-budget romantic comedy In Search of a Midnight Kiss (2007). ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

Alex Holdridge's comedy In Search of a Midnight Kiss follows the plight of Wilson (Scoot McNairy), a 29-year-old man who has just suffered through the most miserable year of his life. A new arrival to the City of Angels, Wilson ends up alone and penniless as New Year's Eve rapidly approaches, and vows to lock his doors, pull his blinds, and climb into bed -- until best friend Jacob (Brian Matthew McGuire) talks him into posting a Craig's List personal ad. In seemingly no time at all, the message leads Wilson to Vivian (Sara Simmonds), a freewheeling young woman utterly determined to be with the "right" man at the stroke of midnight. She soon leads Wilson on an eventful and colorful trip through the nighttime streets of L.A. that he will never forget -- and that leads to a heartfelt emotional connection between the two. Anne Walker-McBay (Before Sunrise and Dazed and Confused) executive produced; Holdridge authored the original script. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

As Dave slowly gains Sarah's trust and follows her to an isolated chapel to explore the true cause of her spiritual encounters, high-school rebel Alec (Matt Vodvarka) vows to claim Sarah's virginity at any cost and wear her corruption as a badge of honor. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Director/writer Alex Holdridge stars as one half of a romantically involved couple at a crossroads in their relationship in his 2003 romantic comedy Sexless. Karen (Kelly Dealyn) and Andy (Holdridge) have been a couple for five years. When they are both accepted to teach English in Japan under the provision that they marry, Andy begins to ponder whether he is ready for the ultimate commitment. In order to put themselves to the test, Andy proposes that he and Karen separate for one month in order to sort out their feelings for one another, as well as to temporarily re-enter the dating scene. Meanwhile, Andy's pal Robert (Brian McGuire) finds himself falling in love with Carissa, a young woman who will soon be leaving for graduate school hundreds of miles away. The pair enter into a tentative, lust-filled relationship that will soon require Robert and Carissa, like Karen and Andy, to make a decision regarding the future of their relationship. Sexless was selected to compete in the 2003 SXSW Film Festival, where it won the Best Narrative Jury Award and the Best Narrative Audience Award. ~ Ryan Shriver, Rovi
