No sooner had actor Joe Pantoliano's character literally lost his head as mobster Ralph Cifaretto on the HBO crime series The Sopranos than he switched to the "right" side of the law on the CBS weekly The Handler. Pantoliano was cast as veteran FBI agent Joe Renato, who was placed in charge of a group of rookie undercover agents operating in L.A. Each of Renato's chameleon charges was a master of disguise and deception, ideally suited for the various FBI stings to which they assigned -- but still not yet dry behind the years insofar as surviving deadly situations. Featured in the cast was another Sopranos expatriate, Lola Glaudini, as eager young agent Heather, Anna Belknap as Lily, Ken Weiler as Roy, Hill Harper as Darnell, and Tanya Wright as Marcy. The Handler debuted September 26, 2003. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The domestic problems between Andy (Dennis Franz) and Connie (Charlotte Ross), exacerbated by the resentful Theo (Austin Majors) and the colicky baby Michelle, spill over into their work at the 15th. Cases on this week's docket include the beating death of a woman in her own kitchen, and the discovery of a body in an SVU well stocked with picnic supplies. All of this pales into insignificance when Andy's partner, Detective John Clark Jr. (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), is arrested on a drug charge by the relentless Internal Affairs Bureau. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Six months after the death of patient Kaya McGinley (Alison Smith), whose illness was misdiagnosed by Chase (Jesse Spencer), a disciplinary hearing is held to probe the situation. Prior to being grilled by a panel of his superiors, Chase is questioned about the incident by Stacy (Sela Ward), as are House (Hugh Laurie) and Cameron(Jennifer Morrison)--and to say that their stories don't quite match up is putting it mildly. Making matters worse is the fact that Chase isn't being completely up-front about his relationship with Kayla. Also on the schedule is some behind-the-scenes chicanery involving a famous transplant surgeon (John Rubinstein) with a roving eye for the ladies. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Sela Ward makes her first appearance as Stacy Warner, former lawyer for the Princeton-Plainsboro clinic--and ex-girlfriend of Dr. House (Hugh Laurie). Stacy's husband has fallen mysteriously ill, and she hopes that House can find out why. But House seems more preoccupied with delivering a lecture to three medical-school diagnostics--an assignment he was forced to accept, but one which he tackles with his usual mean-spirited gusto. As he presents the trio with a hypothetic medical dilemma involving three patients with aching legs, we are treated to a succession of bizarre fantasy sequences. Carmen Electra appears as herself in this episode, which won both an Emmy award (for "best writing") and the Humanitas Prize. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Cameron (Jennifer Morrison) agrees to return to the clinic on one condition: House (Hugh Laurie) must take her out on a dinner date. As the rest of the staffers place bets as to the outcome of this auspicious social event, the clinic treats a young stroke victim (John Cho) whose condition may be the result of a mistake on the part of House--or it may be due to the patient's rather kinky "personal guru" (Christina Cox). Elsewhere, House must play counselor to a pair of senior citizens (Peter Graves June Squibb) who are squabbling over the man's heightened post-Viagra sex drive! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

At the height of a meningitis outbreak, House (Hugh Laurie) must figure out how to properly treat a 12-year-old girl (Skye McCole Bartusiak) who has all the symptoms of the disease, but not the disease itself. Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) insists that House has no time for individual treatment of any patient, but that doesn't stop him from taking stabs at several diagnoses--each one more inaccurate than the last, and all because the girl won't tell him the whole truth. Meanwhile, Cuddy seeks a replacement for the departed Cameron (Jennifer Morrison), but the prospects are a pathetic lot indeed. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Wilson's young patient Andie (Sasha Pieterse), a victim of terminal cancer, bravely submits to treatment to find out why she has begun hallucinating. House thinks that Andie is a bit too brave to be true, and that her courage is the result of a hitherto undetected brain tumor--but in a bizarre turn of events, House won't be able to "cure" Andie's ailment until after her death. Elsewhere, a male patient tries and fails to impress his girlfriend by performing a self-circumcision. (Elvis Costello) is heard on the soundtrack performing Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful". ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

15-year-old "supermodel" Alex (Cameron Richardson) makes a public spectacle of herself when she attacks another model on the catwalk--then collapses. Later evincing such symptoms as double vision and short-term memory loss, Alex undergoes testing for heroin addiction--but House (Hugh Laurie)ahsuspects that her drug use is a smokescreen for her real problem, thus setting the stage for his latest ethical quandary...not to mention a HUGE surprise at episode's end. Meanwhile, Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) is convinced that House's bad leg is getting better, even though the pain has increased beyond the point of endurance. And in a parallel development, Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) treats a father-to-be (James DuMont) who is suffering from "sympathetic" labor pains. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

As House (Hugh Laurie)is wrestling with this medical mystery, he is also plotting sweet revenge against Dr. Philip Weber (Dan Butler) who had ratted him out for cheating way back in med school. House (Hugh Laurie) lives to regret his rude treatment of his police-detective patient Michael Tritter (David Morse) when he winds up in jail on trumped-up charges. The vengeful Tritter suspects that House's behavior is due to substance abuse, and he won't let up on the doctor until his suspicions are confirmed. Meanwhile, a 600-pound patient named George (Pruitt Taylor Vance) suddenly awakens from a coma and demands to be released, refusing further treatment because he is tired of the staff's "fat" jokes as his expense. Looking into the matter, House discovers that George's current medical problems have nothing to do with his weight...but if not, then what IS the cause? ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

House (Hugh Laurie) finds a kindred spirit in the form of Adam (Braeden Lemasters), a 10-year-old autistic boy suffering from chest pains. Due to his brain disorder, Adam has absolutely no social or anger-management skills whatsoever--clearly a boy after House's own heart. This situation proves most disturbing for Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard), who arrives at the conclusion that House must be suffering from latent autism himself. . .especially when House pitches a fit because the blood-stained carpeting in his office (a souvenir of his shooting) has been replaced with a clean new rug. Meanwhile, 17-year-old Ali (Leighton Meester) persists in her romantic pursuit of House, making no secret of her lustful yearnings for our hapless hero. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

House (Hugh Laurie) doesn't have too many idols, but 71-year-old cancer researcher Ezra Powell (Joel Grey) can qualify as one of them. After collapsing in his lab, Powell is rushed to the clinic,, where the staff can't agree whether he is suffering from a heart ailment or lung disease. Frankly, Powell could care less: He simply wants to die--and demands that the staff assist him in his demise. Much to the horrified astonishment of his colleagues, House tells Powell that he'll do anything he asks! And in another development, a congestion patient's 17-year-old daughter (Leighton Meester) develops a crush on House and refuses to leave him alone...on or off the job. This episode was directed by ER regular Laura Innes. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

In an effort to teach House (Hugh Laurie) some humility, Cuddy (Lise Edelstein) and Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) neglect to tell him that he has correctly diagnosed (and indirectly cured) the previous episode's paralysis victim Richard--a strategy that enrages Cameron (Jennifer Morrison). Meanwhile, House's leg pains have returned and he's back on Vicodin, literally stealing the medication by forging prescriptions. The week's major medical mystery concerns seven-year-old Clancy (Skyler Gisondo), who has jumped from his bedroom window, convinced that space aliens are experimenting on him--and the boy's inexplicable bleeding, coupled with the titanium chip implanted in his neck, would seem to validate his fears. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

A naïve teenager finds out just how complicated adult relationships can be in this comedy drama from veteran television director Jeffrey Fine. Aaron (Kyle Gallner) is a bright but socially awkward college freshman studying to become an engineer, like most of the men in his family. Aaron has been accepted into a special advanced program at an Ivy League university, but he's also a gifted cartoonist and would rather study art. Aaron tries to work some drawing classes into his schedule, and through one he meets Linda (Laura Allen), a beautiful 34-year-old single mother who has returned to college. Upbeat and outspoken, Linda befriends Aaron; he's flattered by the attention and becomes deeply infatuated with her. However, when Linda invites Aaron home for dinner, he's introduced to Beth (Britt Robertson), her sharp-tongued and precocious 14-year-old daughter. Beth immediately develops a passionate crush on Aaron, and he finds himself in an uncomfortable position -- the woman he wants is only going to be his friend, while he's not so interested in the girl who wants him (and he could go to jail if he responds to her advances). Cherry received its world premiere at the 2010 South by Southwest Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
