Reece Daniel Thompson Movies

If Reece Thompson's appearances on such popular television shows as Tru Calling, The 4400, and Smallville didn't get him noticed by viewers, then his role as a stuttering teen who joins the debate team to win the heart of a high-school beauty in director Jeffrey Blitz's quirky comedy drama Rocket Science is sure to do the trick. A prolific television actor whose performances in such family-friendly shows as Zixx, Trollz, and Three Moons Over Milford served well to build him a healthy young fan base, Thompson was looking toward a fairly luminous future by the time he was cast in his first leading-man role. While the part of a stuttering teen seeking to impress a pretty classmate might not have been the most glamorous role a young actor could hope for, it did allow Thompson to prove that he had something more to offer the screen than just another pretty face. While Thompson had previously appeared in such features as Dreamcatcher and The Sandlot 2, this was his first headlining role, and he seemed more than up to the task. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

As helmed by Gilles Bourdos, this supernatural thriller - a Franco-German-Canadian co-production - continues John Malkovich's career-long tradition of playing offbeat, enigmatic figures with a menacing air. Romain Duris stars as Nathan Del Amico, an attorney doubly haunted by his past, as the survivor of a near-death experience as a child and a witness of his own baby's death. As a product of these crises, Nathan has buried himself in his work and now suffers from a bad case of familial estrangement from his separated wife Evangeline Lilly and little girl. Then the mysterious Dr. Kay (Malkovich) turns up, claiming that he has clairvoyant visions informing him when someone is about to die - a gift as a "messenger" that enables him to make each person's transition out of life a smooth and easy one. Suddenly, upon hearing Kay's claims, Nathan feels his death-laden memories double in intensity - and grows increasingly convinced that either he now stands on the verge of death, or that he has the same messenger abilities as Kay. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

Jeffrey Blitz's seriocomedy Rocket Science proves that many a handicap can be overcome, no matter how daunting the obstacle at hand may initially seem. Newcomer Reece Thompson plays Hal Hefner, a 15-year-old high-school student with a minor yet socially alienating (and painful) disability: he stutters uncontrollably. Determined to work through the problem, Hal opts for an extreme route -- he joins the school debating team, which sends him on a headfirst plunge into breakneck speech competitions -- and offers a much-needed boost toward correcting the problem. Blitz, like his onscreen alter ego, struggled with a stammer as a young man -- a disability he eventually surmounted -- which imparted him with a lifelong interest in speech and storytelling. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

The five female protagonists of DIC's animated TV series TrollZ were, indeed, trolls, with the attendant "big hair" and tiny jewel-like bodies. Living in the town of Trollzopolis, the teenaged heroines--Onyx, Topaz, Sapphire, Ruby and Amethyst--did the usually teenaged troll things for the most part, occasionally combining their unique magic skills into "The Power of 5", emulating the live-action cast of Charmed but with less serious ramifications. Of course, both the TrollZ and their friends and family members were ideally suitable for transformation into toys and action figures. Aimed at a female 6- to 16-year-old demographic, TrollZ debuted over cable's Toon Disney on September 23, 2005. For the benefit of those without cable, the series was also syndicated by DIC on a weekday basis. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In this sequel to the 1993 box-office hit The Sandlot, it's 1972, and a new bunch of neighborhood kids have taken over the field where they play baseball all summer. Saul (Cole Evan Weiss) is the unofficial leader of the group, who heads up the baseball team and looks after his younger brother, Sammy (Sean Berdy), who can't hear but does play-by-play on the games using sign language. Saul has to face the indignity of letting girls play on his team, but things get even worse when one of them brings her dad's toy rocket to the field. The model accidentally sails over the fence and into the yard of Mr. Mertle (James Earl Jones), owner of the meanest dog in town, leaving the kids with a serious dilemma about getting it back. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Four men are changed forever by an act of mercy -- changes which have a profound impact many years later -- in this blend of horror and science fiction based on a novel by Stephen King. Jonesy (Damian Lewis), Henry (Thomas Jane), Pete (Timothy Olyphant), and Beaver (Jason Lee) were four friends who, as schoolboys, rescued a boy with Down's Syndrome, Duddits (Donnie Wahlberg), from a savage beating at the hands of bullies. Their experience with Duddits left the boys profoundly changed, as they discovered they had developed psychic powers which allowed them to wordlessly communicate with one another, read the minds of others, and see events in the future. The four remained close friends into adulthood, and meet every year for a weekend get-together at a remote hunting lodge. However, one year Jonsey is approached by the spirit of Duddits, which leads him into a severe auto accident, though his wounds heal with mysterious speed and are gone by the time he and the guys get together a few months later. As the guys drink and swap stories, a desperately ill hunter makes his way into the cabin, whose body has become the host for a horrible wormlike creature, which breaks free and soon goes on a killing spree, leaving only Henry alive. In the wake of this attack comes a massive snowstorm, and Henry learns that these events are the first signs of a major attack by a powerful alien force which can assume any form it wishes. As duplicitous military leader Col. Abraham Curtis (Morgan Freeman) comes in to quell the menace, Henry finds himself in communication with the late Jonsey, whose previous near-death experience gives him an unexpected advantage in stemming the alien tide. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
