Two teenage girls enter into a passionate romance that threatens to fall apart when one announces that she will soon be leaving for school, which creates a swell of emotions and brings about a disturbing transformation. When it comes to love, New York City tomboy Jack (Riley Keough) always plays it cool. But when she meets Diane (Juno Temple), something just clicks. Beautiful and unassuming, Diane captures Jack's heart almost instantly. But trouble starts to brew when Diane reveals that she won't be in the city much longer. School is starting, and when it does, she'll head back to Europe. Crestfallen, Jack puts up an emotional wall that Diane does her best to break through. Upon realizing Jack has no intention of continuing their relationship, Diane finds her emotions surging out of control, and the disturbing visions that have been haunting her threaten to lead them both down a terrifying path from which neither may ever return. An aspiring rock star contends with the prospect of giving up his dreams during an emotional battle for shared custody of his six-year-old daughter. Joby (Paul Dano) always dreamt of the day that the years he spent as a struggling musician would finally pay off. But the older he gets, the less likely it seems that will ever happen. Presented with divorce papers by his estranged wife (Margarita Levieva), Joby understands that the only way he will ever see money from the sale of their home is to sign his name on the dotted line. Upon realizing that by signing the papers he will also forfeit custody of his daughter Ellen (Shaylena Mandigo), however, the aging musician begins to have second thoughts. Ivy (Zoe Kazan of Revolutionary Road) returns home to Brooklyn for her summer break from college. She misses her boyfriend, and calls him frequently, but they can't quite seem to connect. She spends a lot of time with her longtime friend, Al (Mark Rendall of 30 Days of Night). Al clearly has a longstanding crush on Ivy, about which he's never done anything, probably out of some combination of fear and respect for their friendship. His confusion is exacerbated when, due to family circumstances, he's forced to stay with Ivy and her mother (Maryann Urbano) during his break from school. As the summer goes on, Ivy deals with her epilepsy and the slow, painful dissolution of her relationship, while Al starts to look for love in other directions. Bradley Rust Gray wrote and directed The Exploding Girl, while his wife, So Yong Kim, served as a producer. Fans of the Cure will recognize the title as a play on their song "The Exploding Boy," the flip side of "In Between Days," which was the title of Kim's directorial debut, on which Gray served as co-writer and producer. The frozen space in a little girl's heart gradually begins to warm thanks to the love of her older sister in director So Yong Kim's portrait of a young innocent forced to come to terms with feelings of loss and abandonment. Six-year-old Jin (Hee Yeon Kim) and her younger sister, Bin (Song Hee Kim), live in a cramped apartment with their single mother. Though their lives are on the edge of disaster, both girls remain completely oblivious to the threats of the outside world. One morning, after Jin wets the bed, their mother packs up all their belongings and sends the girls to live with their alcoholic Big Aunt (Kim Mi-hyang). Suddenly thrust into a hostile and unfamiliar environment, the girls are given a piggy bank and a promise that their mother will return when it's finally been filled. Wrestling with feelings of abandonment despite the fact that she's not mature enough to understand why their mother has left or what may become of her and Bin in the future, Jin showers her younger sibling with affection in order to prevent her from feeling as if all hope has been lost. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Written and directed by Bradley Rust Gray, and produced by his partner, So Yong Kim, Salt takes place entirely in Iceland and tells the story of a young woman, Svava (Melkorka Huldudottir) employed in a fish factory and emotionally attached to her boyfriend, Aggi (David Orn Halldórsson). When Svava moves alone to Reykjavik, it isn't long before Aggi decides to join her and plans a road trip. Svava's open-faced and sweet-natured younger sister, Hildur, expresses interest in tagging along with Aggi - alone in the car; he agrees. She soon finds herself falling deeply in love with the older man. When the car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, and the two are forced to share a small tent, romantic complications inevitably result. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi
