The detectives investigate when a man claims that his current house guest has been robbing gas stations and slashing the attendants. In another case, Diane (Kim Delaney) and Jill (Andrea Thompson) go after a band of gypsies who've been scamming elderly people. But the episode's biggest development (and the one that will mold the direction of the rest of NYPD Blue's seventh season) occurs when Diane again crosses paths with disingenuous drug task-force officer Denby (Scott Cohen) -- whom she sees conversing with a man who looks exactly like Jill's deceased ex-husband, drug trafficker Don Kirkendall. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Both Cory (Ben Savage) and Shawn (Rider Strong) have taken work-study jobs, but with surprisingly different results. Eternal underachiever Shawn proves to be extremely successful in the public-relations field, while Cory can't seem to get any further than the mailroom (and he can't even hold THAT job down!) Meanwhile, Eric (Will Friedle) dies a thousand deaths when his mom Amy (Betsy Randle) enrolls in his creative-writing class--and promptly begins revealing a whole bunch of scintillating family secrets. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Reluctant to tell his daughter, Rachel (Yvonne Zima), that he and Jenn (Christine Harnos) are about to get a divorce, Greene (Anthony Edwards) instead takes her ice skating -- and invites Lewis (Sherry Stringfield) along, much to Rachel's open dismay. Elsewhere, Vucelich (Ron Rifkin) has invited his research assistant, Benton (Eriq La Salle), to an exclusive dinner party, whereupon Benton asks Jeanie (Gloria Reuben) to accompany him -- a request that causes no end of embarrassment when he mistakenly thinks that he himself has been uninvited. And Carter (Noah Wyle) can't bring himself to tell Mr. Rubadoux (Red Buttons) that his wife has died. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
