In this low-budget but inventive teen kung-fu melodrama, the diminutive, karate-chopping Lovely (Lucinda Dooling) is out to wreak vengeance on the drug thugs who killed her younger brother, and fortunately she is not alone. Her female karate class and the instructor (Susan Mechsner) are behind her all the way, most notably in the final scenes when a showdown between the kicking teen women and the heavy-duty gangsters almost brings down the docks. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Melissa Astin (Barbara Babcock), the wife of Quincy's supervisor Dr. Robert Astin (John S. Ragin), stops her car to pick up a runaway boy named Joey (Shane Sinutko) --and shortly afterward is involved in a traffic accident. When Quincy (Jack Klugman) pays a visit to Melissa and Joey in the hospital, he checks the boy's injuries, only to conclude that several of the child's bruises are very old. This melodramatic thriller is not one of Elia Kazan's directorial shining moments. Kazan, who is better-known for such great films as On the Waterfront, made this film, with his friends, on a very low budget. It is probably most notable for featuring James Woods in an early role. Bill Schmidt (Woods) is a Vietnam veteran who has returned home and wants to take it easy. His father-in-law Harry Wayne (Patrick McVey), who hates his guts, takes exception to this. When two other veterans show up looking to harass Schmidt, Harry helps pave their way straight to his door. Unfortunately, while taking over a fellow worker's customer list, Polk is accused of murdering one of his customers, Grace Knapp (Kathleen Crowley), with that selfsame hook.
