As the janitor, Percy has been witness to these acts and is understandably concerned when his disturbed nephew goes missing from the institute. Now, Percy must track down the young man, before the doctor does. ~ Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide

Rapper and underground hip-hop mogul Master P made his film debut with this low-budget drama shot on the mean streets of New Orleans, LA. Perry McKnight (Master P) grew up in a run-down housing project in the Crescent City, where as a boy he began working as a drug runner for Friendly (Moon Jones), a corrupt police detective. As he's grown to adulthood, Perry -- known to his friends as P -- has become a successful crack distributor, but he's still under the thumb of the violent Friendly. P hatches a plan for a big score that will allow him to establish a nest egg so he can go legit and produce a rap album for his younger brother, Silkk (Vyshonne Miller, aka Silkk the Shocker). But between P's lackadaisical partners, Friendly and his cohorts, and a bloodthirsty gang of Colombian cocaine dealers, his road out of the ghetto is a narrow and dangerous path. Master P co-wrote and co-directed I'm Bout It with co-star Moon Jones, as well as playing the lead role; a number of artists from his No Limit Records roster appear in the film and contribute to the nonstop hip-hop score. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

An attorney who tells the truth for 24 hours straight? This has got to be the movies! Fletcher Reede (Jim Carrey) is a lawyer obsessed with his career, and he's devoted his life to bending the truth to his advantage. This habit has broken up his marriage to Audrey (Maura Tierney) and isn't doing much good for his relationship with his young son Max (Justin Cooper). Fletcher repeatedly promised Max that he'll be there for Max's eighth birthday party, but when an important assignment comes up at work, Fletcher calls Audrey and makes an excuse so flimsy that even Max can see through it. When it comes time to blow out the candles on his cake, Max makes a wish: that his Dad could go just one day without telling a lie. Suddenly, Max finds himself physically incapable of saying anything that isn't true -- which, given the divorce settlement case he's just been handed, is going to make his next day in court very interesting indeed. While designed to show off a warmer and more likable side of Jim Carrey's personality, Liar Liar still revels in the broad physical comedy that made Carrey a star in Ace Ventura, Pet Detective -- which makes sense, since both were directed by Tom Shadyac. Both Carrey's fans and foes will get a chuckle out of Swoosie Kurtz's tongue-in-cheek insult to the film's star in the blooper reel that runs under the final credits. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

The trajectories of two opposing romantic relationships are fodder for this African-American screwball comedy from co-writer, star, and director Rusty Cundieff. Montel (Cundieff) and Clyde (Joe Torry) stars as friends who couldn't be less alike. An introverted photographer, Montel wants to meet the one right girl for him and settle down to build a family, while Clyde is a flamboyant womanizer just out for a good time. At a party, they meet Adina (Paula Jai Parker), a sexy golddigger seeking a wealthy husband with robotic determination, and her shy law clerk friend Brandy (Tisha Campbell). The couples pair off in predictable combinations, but while the brief encounter between Clyde and Adina quickly implodes when she discovers that Clyde's success is an act and his Porsche is borrowed, the relationship between Montel and Brandy blooms into a true romance. Eventually, they decide to marry, leaving Clyde and Adina to reunite in a selfish scheme to break their best friends up using whatever treacherous means they can employ. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

Boyz N the Hood meets Tales from the Crypt in this alternately horrific, funny, and socially conscious anthology film. The four grim vignettes are framed by the tale of three street hoods who break into Mr. Simm's inner-city funeral home to find a stash of drugs. The mortician puts them off, by telling them a few eerie stories about his "patrons." ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

In this imaginative sci-fi thriller, rancher Alex Verne loses his loving wife and family at the ruthless hands of computer magnate Burrough's shot-gun wielding hitmen. They think they hit Alex too, but he is merely in a coma. He remains so until he hears a far-off version of "Amazing Grace" his wife's favorite song. Staggering across the desert, he ends up in a mystical cave where ancient immortals explain Burroughs' evil scheme. It seems the techno-tycoon discovered the remains of an ancient computer, one that predates the coming of homo-sapiens. The highly evolved original operators used their technology to change apes into humans. The newly created beings were then the servants of the ancients who eventually became so evolved that they zapped themselves into the realm of virtual reality. Burroughs wants to do the same, and Verne's land plays a key role in the old computer's operation. The ancients therefore transform Verne into a Cro-Magnon man with superhuman strength and assign him to crush Burroughs before he can use the computer and make a mistake that could destroy all humanity. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
