A middle-aged woman coming to terms with her son's sexual awakening does some extramarital exploration of her own in this downbeat drama. Miriam (Martina Gedeck) has just turned forty and is going on a seaside vacation with her husband Andre (Peter Davor) and fifteen-year-old son Nils (Lucas Kotaranin). Andre has given Niels permission to bring his girlfriend Livia (Svea Lohde) along for the trip; while Livia is soon to turn thirteen, she looks and acts several years older, and Miriam wonders if Andre has unwittingly given them carte blanche to take their relationship to the physical level, though Andre seems unconcerned. While sailing, the vacationers meet Bill (Robert Seeliger), a footloose American of German heritage who seems quite taken with Livia, and vice versa. While Miriam is quite appalled by Bill's flirtation with an underage girl, the longer she thinks about him the more she's drawn to him, and when she decides to confront Bill about what may be going on with Livia, they end up having sex. However, while Bill insists he's not interested in Livia physically, Miriam soon discovers her son's girlfriend is also a rival for her lover's affections. A wife's affair turns deadly in this steamy entry from suspense specialist Jason Hreno. As a successful television news cameraman, Jeff Randal (Robert Seeliger)'s job finds him frequently out of town on assignment for days at a time, leaving his young wife Donna (Nicollette Sheridan) alone with the couple's young daughter. Bored by the lack of company and hungering for attention, Donna soon becomes romantically involved with her daughter's handsome teacher Alan (Andrew Jackson). Everyone who grew up watching the original Saturday Night Live remembers the fateful night in 1976 when Lorne Michaels, with mock gravity, announced that NBC would pay the munificent sum of 3,000 dollars if the Beatles would agree to come on the show and perform three Beatles songs. But everyone may not know that ex-Beatles John Lennon and Paul McCartney happened to be in New York, watching that particular episode of SNL -- and for a few moments, they were tempted to play along with the gag and accept the offer. How did this come about? Well, it seems that McCartney, riding high with his hit single "Silly Love Songs," was in Manhattan to promote an upcoming concert. For old time's sake, and (probably) to heal a few long-standing wounds, McCartney called upon Lennon at the latter's apartment in the Dakota. First telecast February 1, 2000, Two of Us dramatizes this bittersweet reunion, of which "L'Affair SNL" was but one of many extra added ingredients. Directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, who'd also helmed the Beatles' swan song movie, Let It Be, Two of Us was seen over the VH1 cable network. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
