Lisa (Lara Jean Marshall), Stevie (Sophie Bennett), and Carole (Keenan Macwilliam) are three girls who share a close friendship and a love of horses on the Australian television series The Saddle Club. In The Saddle Club: The Mane Event, the town is abuzz over the upcoming wedding of Max (Brett Tucker) and Deborah (Cathy Godbold), but the girls have problems of their own to deal with. Veronica (Heli Simpson) is going out of her way to make trouble for Stevie and Phil (Glenn Meldrum), Lisa takes a bad fall while riding, and everyone is surprised to learn Red (James O'Dea) has given up riding. Based on the book series by Bonnie Bryant, this film follows the young members of the Pine Hollow Saddle Club. A young film star named Max is shooting a movie at the stables, and the girls make it their business to help romance bloom between him and the pretty journalist who has come to interview him. In the tradition of Arthur Miller's McCarthy-era play The Crucible, this two-part TV dramatization of the Salem Witch Trials was heavily influenced by the present-day political scene. Rev. Parris (Henry Czerny), spiritual leader of Salem, Massachusetts, in 1692, needs a unifying issue to end the intramural squabbling between the town's Puritans. When the daughters of Ann and Thomas Putnam (Kirstie Alley and Jay O. Sanders) begin behaving in a bizarre, disruptive fashion, Parris knows that he has found something that can be transformed into a target of unilateral hatred for his flock. Before long, the Putnam girls and the family's servant Titubea (Gloria Reuben) have been labeled as witches, and eventually the hysteria spreads throughout the town, with anyone who doesn't agree with the status quo running the risk of public ostracism, and ultimately, execution for witchcraft (the eventual fate of 20 unfortunates). The climax is devoted to the notorious witch trials, staged at the behest of the Massachusetts colony's politically ambitious deputy governor (Peter Ustinov). Three girls on the edge of adolescence find themselves dealing with the emotional consequences of growing up in this made-for-TV movie, adapted from the book for young people by Bonnie Bryant. Carole (Keenan Macwilliam), Stevie (Sophie Bennett), and Lisa (Lara Jean Marshall) are a trio of 12-year-olds who love horses and have a talent for riding. They spend most of their spare time at the Pine Hollow Stables, where they train with their coach for an upcoming horse show, but the pressures of competition begin to wear on them, as well as their new interest in boys. However, the three friends learn they can always count on each other when the going gets rough.
