Aldis Hodge Movies
When he initially surfaced as an on-camera presence during the 1990s and 2000s, supporting actor
Aldis Hodge recalled a young
Will Smith, with his looks, his relaxed charm, and easygoing manner; like
Smith,
Hodge made one of his first significant impressions on the small screen, yet he maintained a lower profile. Parts included guest starring appearances on such series programs as
ER,
CSI,
NYPD Blue, and
Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Around 2005,
Hodge broke into big-screen features, first with small-scale roles, such as an appearance in the
David Mamet-
Stuart Gordon thriller
Edmond, then in that same year's
Snoop Dogg-headlined urban drama
The Tenants.
Hodge also provided one of the adorable penguins' voices in
George Miller's animal picture
Happy Feet (2006). One the small screen that year,
Hodge could be seen in a recurring role on the critically acclaimed sports drama series
Friday Night Lights as Ray "Voodoo" Tatum. He enjoyed a healthy run on the hit cable program Leverage as part of a group of criminals who take revenge against other scammers in order to help out those who have been victimized.
Aldis Hodge is not to be confused with
Al Hodge (
Captain Video and His Video Rangers), a television actor from the '50s and '60s -- nor are they related. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

Oscar winning actor Timothy Hutton stars in this darkly comic drama about a group of criminals who have a thoroughly modern take on the concept of social justice. Led by Nate Ford (Hutton), who has experience as an insurance investigator, the team extort money from targets who really deserve it - people who have harmed others themselves. But robbing the innocent is a very different thing from robbing the guilty in the minds of these warped Robin Hoods, and with a team comprised of a mastermind, a cat burglar, a con-woman, a hacker, and a veteran thief, they're prepared to exert their moral philosophy on the cretins of the world - and make a good living while they do it. ~ Cammila Collar, Rovi

David Mamet wrote the screenplay for this adaptation of his play about a man who suddenly stumbles into a new and dangerous life. Edmond Burke (William H. Macy) is on his way home from work one evening when he impulsively stops to have his fortune read by a woman who informs him, "You are not where you belong." When he does arrive home, Edmond soon falls into an argument with his wife (Rebecca Pidgeon), and he storms out into the city, where he stops at a bar for a few drinks. There, Edmond finds himself talking with a man (Joe Mantegna) who freely shares his racist views about the role of African-Americans in society, and suddenly Edmond begins letting go of the sense of self-control that has always governed his actions. After a crawl through the city's underbelly of watering holes, strip clubs, gambling dens, and brothels, Edmond comes face to face with the violence of this world, and unexpectedly finds himself responding in kind. Edmond also stars Julia Stiles, Denise Richards, Mena Suvari, Bai Ling, and Dylan Walsh; it was directed by Stuart Gordon, who worked often with David Mamet during their early days at Chicago's Organic Theater Company. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

A pair of writers inhabiting an abandoned New York tenement building become locked in an antagonistic battle of wills in director Danny Green's adaptation of novelist Bernard Malamud's studied exploration of faltering race relations. The time is the early '70s, and Jewish writer Harry Lesser (Dylan McDermott) is finally nearing completion on the novel that has taken him almost a decade to write. The last tenant in a crumbling inner-city apartment building, Harry soon discovers that he is no longer alone in the building when an illegal squatter named Willie (Snoop Dogg) claims a room down the hall and begins writing his own novel. When Harry attempts to offer writing advice to his new neighbor, his criticism of Willie's "immature" writing style ignites a heated confrontation between the pair that is quickly compounded by the growing relationship between Harry and Willie's white girlfriend Irene (Rose Byrne). As the situation quickly spins out of control and Willie sets fire to the only existing copy of Harry's treasured manuscript, the deep-rooted racial animosity explodes into rage and the two writers become locked in a life-or-death struggle to survive. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

When she does this, her Underworld subjects threaten to overthrow both herself and Cole unless Phoebe proves her loyalty by killing her sisters, Piper (Holly Marie Combs) and Paige (Rose McGowan). However, this may not be necessary in the case of Piper, who is so depressed that she is liable to give up the ghost on her own. ~ Rovi

On the night before Halloween, Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and friends attend a costume party at the Alpha Delta house. Oz (Seth Green) helps prepare the sound system, subsequently cutting himself and dripping blood onto an occult symbol a frat brother is painting on the floor. Unbeknownst to everyone, the symbol summons the fear demon Gachnar, who forces everyone to face their fears. As Buffy, still hung up on Parker (Adam Kaufman), fears being alone, Oz fears the monster within himself. Meanwhile, Willow (Alyson Hannigan) fears she cannot control her magic, and Xander (Nicholas Brendon) fears his friends will forget about him. His may be the most well-founded worry, as no one tells him about the party and he (almost) stays home alone to watch Phantasm instead. This is also the first time that Buffy actually notices the Initiative Commandos -- see "The Initiative" -- but mistakes them for costumed students. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
