A cash strapped college student goes to work as an escort in order to make ends meet, only to realize that her education has taken a back seat to her budding career in the pleasure industry. In her struggle to stay financially stable during her first year at the university, 19 year old Laura (Deborah Francois) discovers that a part-time job just won't pay the bills. Then, just when Laura is at her most desperate, she sees an internet ad from a man who's willing to pay £100 an hour to spend an intimate evening with a willing student. Compelled by the lure of some easy money, Laura answers the ad. Later, despite a promise to herself that this will be a once time occurrence, Laura finds herself falling into a new bed every night, and making more money than she ever thought possible. By the time Laura realizes she has stumbled into the downward spiral of prostitution, she begins to doubt her ability to break free from temptation, and finish her education. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

An actress wrestling with feelings of inadequacy decides to make a film about her peers in this comedy from France. Maiwenn Le Besco is an actress who, after a less-than-distinguished career in the movies, has wowed critics with a series of one-woman-shows. While Maiwenn's career is been revitalized, she's having doubts about her work and her motivations. As a way of looking into herself, Maiwenn decides to make a documentary about some of France's leading actresses, a number of whom are her friends, so she can reevaluate her own creative process by studying others. As Maiwenn films interviews with the likes of Jeanne Balibar, Julie Depardieu, Charlotte Rampling, their eccentricities tend to take center stage as they indulge their neuroses or simply attack the crew in a fit of diva-style misbehavior. Meanwhile, as Maiwenn's subjects seem to be losing touch with reality, the actress turned auteur isn't faring much better as her relationship with her boyfriend, a French hip-hop star, begins to fall apart and her insecurities become even more pronounced. Bal Des Actrices (aka About All Actresses) was the second feature film directed by Maiwenn, who professionally uses only her first name. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

The brutal legacy of the Algerian war forms the heart of filmmaker Florent Emilio Siri's stark period drama concerning a young French soldier confronted by the horrors of war. Lieutenant Terrien (Benoît Magimel) has been dispatched to one of the most remote regions of Algeria to replace an officer who was killed in a recent skirmish. But this war is much more complicated than Lieutenant Terrien ever anticipated, and before long he is forced to confront a World War II French Army veteran willing to kill the soldiers with whom he once served in order to secure the independence of his birthplace. When the fellaghas (Algerian national fighters) massacre an entire village in retaliation for a visit from the French, Lieutenant Terrien vows to remain calm and professional despite the unspeakable horrors that greet him with each passing day. On the other side of the coin is battle-hardened Sergeant Dougnac (Albert Dupontel), a soldier who has seen more than his fair share of combat and stands firm in the belief that this brand of brutality can only be confronted with equal measures of barbarity. Later, Lieutenant Terrien meets a young boy who miraculously survived the massacre of his village and is forced to see the conflict through the innocent eyes of a child. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
