Cobie Smulders Movies
Beautiful auburn-haired model-turned-actress Cobie Smulders grew up in her native British Columbia and commuted regularly from Vancouver to Los Angeles while looking for assignments. Smulders reportedly secured a work visa thanks to her first major role: that of Robin, the charming TV reporter whom lead character Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) falls in love with on their very first date, on the sitcom How I Met Your Mother (2005). Before that, she had been a regular on the adventure series Veritas: The Quest and had appeared several times on The L Word (both series were shot in Canada). The Broken Lizard troupe is back with The Slammin' Salmon, a comedy revolving around a restaurant whose former heavyweight champion owner, Cleon Salmon (Michael Clarke Duncan), sets his waitstaff against each other in a competition to see who can win the most tips, with the winner taking home a cash prize and the lowest earner winning a beatdown from the champ. Troupe member Kevin Heffernan makes his directorial debut with the picture, taking over the reigns from Jay Chandrasekhar, who directed all of Lizard's films up till this point. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide

A walk down the aisle, unemployment and an unexpected crush factor into the fourth season of this buddy comedy. Viewers continually wonder if Ted's current conquest becomes the titular mom, and this season, it looks like he may have hit pay dirt. The relationship between Ted (Josh Radnor) and Stella (Sarah Chalke) moves forward when she accepts his proposal, made at the end of Season 3. As they get closer to the altar, they trip a few times: They realize they know little about each other after Stella ends up in the ER because of Ted's cooking; she expects him to move in with her after the wedding, but her Garden State address inflames ardent New Jersey-hater Ted; and his pals stage an intervention over their concerns about his nuptials. The wedding itself has a bad vibe. After Stella's sis backs out of her own wedding, Stella and Ted assume her plans, but it all goes south...bad vegan food? no booze? exes on the guest list? Just as frustrating is the employment picture for the gang. Ted, Marshall (Jason Segel) and Robin (Cobie Smulders) find themselves out of jobs. Marshall takes it the hardest (and finds his "underpants radius" expanding), Ted considers striking out on his own, while Robin goes to the ends of the Earth -- literally, Tokyo -- to find work. When that doesn't pan out, she faces deportation...until Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) creates an awesome video resumé for her. The most surprising turn of events is the revelation that Barney has a heart. He admits to Lily (Alyson Hannigan) that he's in love with Robin, and the usually sleazy Barney becomes flustered and jealous around his crush. Oh, but he still beds other women. In other developments: The gang searches for the best burger in NYC with Regis Philbin; the Naked Man offers an offbeat way to "close the deal" on a date; and Barney reveals his secret family. ~ Sue Tuttle, All Movie Guide

A man fights to bring decency and the rule of law back to his hometown in this action drama. Chris Vaughn (The Rock) left his home in Washington State's timber country to join the Army, where he distinguished himself as a member of the Special Forces. When his hitch is over, Vaughn decides to return home to help run the family business, a sawmill, but he soon makes the unpleasant discovery that things aren't what they once were. Vaughn learns that the town's lumber industry has all but dried up, and an old high school buddy, Jay Hamilton (Neal McDonough), has turned the city into a den of vice, running a large gambling casino and strip club while selling drugs and women on the side. Angry at this turn of events, and frustrated by local law enforcement officials who are willing to ignore Hamilton's crimes in exchange for kickbacks, Vaughn decides to run for sheriff, and with the help of another old friend, Ray Templeton (Johnny Knoxville), he wins the election. But Hamilton doesn't take kindly to Vaughn's attempts to clean up the town, and Vaughn discovers Hamilton's henchmen are willing to target his friends, his family, and the woman he loves (Ashley Scott) in order to have their way. Walking Tall was based on Phil Karlson's 1973 action hit of the same name, which was in turn inspired by the true story of Buford Pusser, who was sheriff of Tennessee's McNairy County between 1964 and 1970 and gained fame for his tough tactics against the local criminal element. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

An advertising executive at risk of losing his job finds that inspiration can sometimes come from the least likely of places in a brotherly comedy about getting laid and getting the job done from director Pat Holden. Adman Ed Waxman (Brendan Fehr) has just been informed by the higher-ups that if he doesn't come up with a killer campaign in the next 48 hours, he can kiss his high-paying job goodbye. Though work is all Ed can think about as the weekend approaches and inspiration seems to take a vacation, the arrival of Ed's womanizing brother, Cooper (Chris Klein), finds the pair setting out on an altogether different mission: to find the overworked and undersexed Ed some fitting female companionship. Just as a series of disastrous encounters with everyone from single mothers to sultry strippers begins to convince Ed that his love life is in as much trouble as his professional life, the appearance of a woman who could quite possibly be Ed's soul mate provides a glimmer of hope that the situation may not be as dire as he previously thought. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

From the creators of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider came this weekly, 60-minute ABC adventure-fantasy series. The titular Veritas was a high-tech archeological team headed by brilliant scientist Solomon Zond (Alex Carter) and his long-estranged teenaged son Nikko (Ryan Merriman). As the two Zonds awkwardly tried to reconnect after so many years apart, they also embarked upon thrill-packed missions aimed at solving the riddles of long-dead civilizations. Helping Solomon and Nikko in their quest (and also dodging innumerable villains and mercenaries along the way) were gorgeous female computer geek Maggie (Cynthia Martells), narrow-visioned pedant Calvin (Eric Balfour) and Solomon's raffish buddy Vincent (Arnold Vosloo).
