Enid only looks like she's sleeping. In fact, she's dead. Shortly after Enid caught her husband Harry (Judge Reinhold) in bed with her sister June (Elizabeth Perkins), a row ensued, whereupon June accidently killed Enid. June's problem now is to hide the truth from the authorities--including her police-officer husband Floyd (Jeffrey Jones). Then she decides to reveal Enid's demise, albeit rearranging the damning evidence to make the whole thing look like the accident it really was. Widely praised when it was sneak-previewed for critics, the darkly hilarious Enid is Sleeping was timorously re-edited by its distributor for its general release. Lovingly and laboriously, star Elizabeth Perkins and director Maurice Phillips reassembled the film into its original form. This sporadically telecast British series was based on the "Tuppence and Tommy" stories by Agatha Christie. James Warwick and Francesca Annis starred as upper-class couple Tommy and Tuppence Beresford, who never seemed to go anywhere without stumbling over a mystery or murder. Most often, Tommy would have preferred to let the proper authorities handle the matter, but that just wasn't good enough for his capricious and adventurous young wife. Also seen in most of the series' eleven episodes was Reece Dinsdale as Albert. First broadcast in the U.K. in 1980, Partners in Crime was seen in America as an irregularly scheduled component of the PBS anthology Mystery. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Ever anxious to enter the "nighttime serial" market engendered by Dallas, NBC commissioned Flamingo Road, a casual remake of the 1949 Joan Crawford film of the same name. The TV-movie pilot, which aired in May of 1980, introduces the dramatiis personae. Howard Duff plays the corrupt political boss of a small Florida town (a role originated by Sidney Greenstreet in 1949). Cristina Raines is the Crawford counterpart, a faded nightclub singer who wanders into Duff's town and upsets the political and social apple cart by shacking up with a local contract (John Beck). Duff tries to destroy Raines by dredging up her past, to no avail. When Flamingo Road became a series in 1981, it manage to hang by its fingertips in the ratings for eighteen months. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
