In this concluding episode of a two-part story, George Jefferson (Sherman Hemsley), with the help of several new "good buddies," manages to get his extremely pregnant daughter-in-law, Jenny (Berlinda Tolbert), to the maternity hospital just in time. Jenny's husband, Lionel (Mike Evans), his move to Chicago still pending, rushes back to New York to be by her side when the baby arrives. Despite his animosity towards his former parole officer Marcus Hayes (Louis Gosset Jr. in his first series appearance), Jim (James Garner) agrees to take a case on Hayes' behalf. Jim is to investigate the possibility of criminal involvement in the high-stakes bidding for a valuable pro-basketball franchise, ostensibly to help out Hayes' employer, Athletics commissioner Martin Eastman (David White). Targetting a Chicago-based espionage ring, Inspector Erskine (Efrem Zimbalist Jr.) goes undercover, posing as an injured spy named Eric Cross. It is Erskine's goal to identity the ringleader of the spies, a person known only as "Constantine." In this rare kinescope from the early years of the long-running dramatic anthology Philco Television Playhouse, Ed Begley Sr. stars as Ernie Barger, the bombastic, conservative but withal likeable co-owner of a successful dinner-plate manufacturing firm. Having spent his life imposing his will on those around him, Ernie cannot admit that he is out of step with the times professionally, nor that he might be responsible for the shyness and recurring illnesses of his wife Mariella (Carmen Mathews). But Ernie is certain of one thing in life: That once his beloved son Roy (John Connell) has graduated from college, he and Ernie will be inseparable buddies. Alas, it at Roy's graduation that Ernie is dealt the first in a series of devastating disilllusionments. Things get personal for Lt. Andy Anderson (Wesley Lau) when his cousin, partrol-car cop Jimmy Anderson (Dick Davalos), is accused of being the "inside man" for a burglary at the Wilsons Plastics Company. During a shootout with the thieves, Jimmy's partner Otto Norden (William Boyett) was killed, whereupon plant executive Dwight Wilson (William Phipps) cast suspicion on poor Jimmy. Things get worse when the plant's night watchman is murdered and Jimmy is accused of that crime as well. Grimly, Anderson places the fate of his cousin in the capable hands of his "friendly enemy" Perry Mason (Raymond Burr).
