In this British made-for-TV mystery, the title sleuths investigate the murder of a school principal. It's a puzzling case, because while every one knew he was dead, his body was supposedly buried in Austria. Instead, the body is accidentally unearthed beneath the memorial erected for him on the school grounds. A college student's death further complicates matters. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

In the first episode of a two-part story, renegade Watcher James Horton (Peter Hudson) plots to destroy the friendship between Duncan (Adrian Paul) and Richie (Stan Kirsch). Crucial to the evil scheme is Horton's murderous mentoring of escaped criminal Lisa Halle (played by Meilani Paul, the then-wife of series star Adrian Paul). Things come to a head when Pete Wilder (Martin Cummins), the man who saved Richie's life, is killed -- and it looks as though Duncan is responsible. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Filmed on location, An African Dream stars John Kani as a black African resident of the early 20th century who spends several years in England. Having received a "proper" white man's education, he returns to his homeland as a teacher. While his illusions about bridging the gap between the white and black populations in Africa are doomed to failure, he finds a unexpected kindred spirit in the form of Kitty Aldridge. A white resident of a recently established British colony, Kitty is attracted to the idealistic Kani, and he to her. That their relationship fosters resentment from others is indicated by the "PG for violence" rating bestowed upon An African Dream. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The misbehavior of a group of young men away at school seems to be indicative of what is waiting for them when they "grow up," in this slightly far-fetched account of then and now in the British upper classes. In 1973, the young men barely associate with Quentin (Martyn Stanbridge) because his family lives in Singapore, and they bully their lower classmate Cox (Anton Lesser) just because they feel like it. Alistair Mount (Dominic Jephcott), the ringleader of this group of nondescript wealthy men is particularly obnoxious. One decade later, Quentin is bored, still plays cricket with the old buddies, and in an ironic twist, Alistair's wife starts a liaison with Quentin that would flatten her husband if he ever found out - but he is in Northern Ireland, up to absolutely no good at all. Meanwhile, Cox - apparently an admirer of Che Guevara, approaches Quentin with plans of vengeance for those earlier years of persecution. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

This unsettling British Alien clone (released in the U.K. under the sleazy title Inseminoid) is set in the labyrinthine underground caverns of a remote planet, where a team of scientific explorers find themselves in the bizarre predicament of defending themselves from a rampaging, pregnant crew member (Judy Geeson). It seems the poor woman has been impregnated by a slime-covered insectoid alien (as depicted in a surreal and truly disgusting flashback), and the resulting hormonal imbalance has transformed her into an inhumanly strong, psychopathic killer. She promptly sets about dismembering and eating everyone in sight (no doubt because of the baby's nutritional requirements) before finally giving birth to a pair of snarling little mutants bearing a more-than-passing resemblance to the terror tykes from the It's Alive series. Aside from the admittedly "unique" premise, this is a fairly standard rip-off -- complete with characters resembling their Alien counterparts -- and the lovely Geeson's rabid, eye-popping performance is more than a bit uncomfortable to watch. The American video release is missing a great deal of the original's graphic violence. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide

Swordplay, secret messages, and the rustle of ballroom finery make this 1982 adaptation of The Scarlet Pimpernel a gala bash. Anthony Andrews heads the cast as English nobleman Sir Percy Blakeney, a conceited but amusing fop in the drawing rooms of British high society. But beneath his veneer of lacy impertinence is a man of bravado and derring-do. In disguise, he becomes the Pimpernel -- ta-da! -- and steals into France to rescue aristocrats condemned to the guillotine during the French Revolution. After each rescue, he leaves behind a scarlet pimpernel, a flower whose petals close at the approach of stormy weather. He also uses a signet ring engraved with a scarlet pimpernel to identify himself on the sealing wax of letters to compatriots. It is all jolly-good intrigue. Because he cloaks his schemes in great secrecy, not even his new wife Marguerite (Jane Seymour) realizes he is anything more than an innocuous dandy. Frustrated, the French send the ruthless Chauvelin (Ian McKellen) to England to serve as ambassador and ferret out the elusive Pimpernel. In a plot that ensnares Marguerite and closes the Pimpernel's petals, Chauvelin finally confronts his clever adversary, and it's en garde -- parry and thrust! ~ Mike Cummings, All Movie Guide
