Cowboy Jack Clement is one of the great behind-the-scenes figures in the history of country and rock and roll, as well as a legendary eccentric in a field full of outsized personalities. As Sam Phillips' second-in-command at Sun Records, Clement recorded some of Jerry Lee Lewis's biggest hits, and helped Johnny Cash and Charlie Rich refine their styles. After moving to Texas, Clement cut a handful of early hits for George Jones and suggested he record "She Thinks I Still Care". In Nashville, he discovered Charley Pride and Townes van Zandt and after deciding that recording studios were a bad environment for recording he turned his home into "The Cowboy Arms Hotel and Recording Spa," where he's cut sessions on everyone from Emmylou Harris to Frankie Yankovic. Clement has also written hit songs, produced a horror movie (Dear Dead Delilah), shot hours of video for a variety of unaired television special starring himself and his friends, and become known as one of the funniest and canniest minds in Nashville. Shakespeare Was A Big George Jones Fan: Cowboy Jack Clement's Home Movies is a documentary (produced in part by Clement himself) that takes a look at his life and career as well as offering a healthy portion of the anecdotes, philosophies and tall tales Clement is known to share. The film also includes excerpts from Clement's library of home movies and videos, including footage of him having fun with Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Kris Kristofferson and many more. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Chris (voice of Seth Green) gets a paper route so he'll be able to buy a birthday present for his junior high crush. He earns enough money to buy the girl a bottle of perfume. "It'll make you smell like Elizabeth Taylor," he tells her. "I guess that means you'll smell like bourbon and Vicodin." Things go downhill from there. Later, Chris witnesses a convenience store robbery. When he goes to the police station to pick the culprit out of a lineup, Peter (voice of Seth MacFarlane) idiotically reveals Chris' identity to the hoodlum. When the bad guy escapes from jail, the feds show up to put the Griffins in the witness relocation program. They're sent to Bumblescum, a tiny town in the Deep South. Their new home is a decrepit shack. "I bet if we fixed it up a bit," Lois (voice of Alex Borstein) enthuses, "it could be a piece of crap." Inside, they find a jar with a hand in it in the basement, and an unfunny Jeff Foxworthy (voice of Ralph Garman) in the closet. Peter is repeatedly attacked by raccoons. He rigs up the station wagon like the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard, and Stewie (MacFarlane) learns to play the banjo, which makes him "feel so deliciously white trash." Chris makes a new friend, Sam (voice of Kathleen Wilhoite), who appears to want more than friendship from him. But Peter runs afoul of the locals when he critiques a Civil War reenactment in which the South wins, and things get even more dangerous when the FBI agents inadvertently reveal Chris' location to the robber. This episode features the vocal talents of Brian Dunkelman, Dakota Fanning, and Waylon Jennings. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide

Add Tom Sawyer to QueueAdd Tom Sawyer to top of Queue
Mark Twain's classic novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is re-created here as an animated adventure movie. Featuring a country music soundtrack with songs by Hank Williams Jr., Waylon Jennings and Lee Ann Womack, the video is also accented with famous voices, like those of Don Knotts and Betty White. The characters have all been resurrected as animals; Tom and Becky are cats, Huck is a fox, and Injun Joe (more sensitively corrected to be "Injurin' Joe" in this production) is a bear. The animation is excellent, though the plot itself is a looser interpretation of Twain's story. Children aged five to 12 should enjoy the story and lively animation while getting a basic introduction to a classic piece of literature. ~ Sarah Block, All Movie Guide
