Para Handy, the grizzled and not overly bright Scottish boat captain created by humorist Neil Munro, was the central character in three different British TV series: Para Handy-Master Mariner (1959-1960), The Vital Spark (1966-1967), and The Tales of Para Handy, which debuted over BBC1 on July 31, 1994. Following in the footsteps of previous series stars Duncan MacRae and Roddy McMillan, Gregor Fisher was cast as Para Handy, skipper of the cargo vessel Vital Spark. In each 50-minute episode, Capt. Handy and his klutzy crew got in and out of trouble while put-putting up and down the Scottish Highland coast.
