Daniel Baldwin Movies
Daniel Baldwin is the third eldest child of six, four of whom are star actors (all the boys of the family, oddly enough). He attended Ball State University for about a year, planning to study psychology. He left school and began to work as a stand-up comedian before starting acting in 1988. Baldwin has had some problems with the law in the past, the most serious being a drug possession offense. ~ All Movie GuideActor Dan Aykroyd made his directorial debut with this bizarre comic fantasy. Financier Chris Thorne (Chevy Chase) hopes to impress beautiful Diane Lightson (Demi Moore), so he invites her along for a trip to Atlantic City, with a pair of wealthy Brazilians, Fausto (Taylor Negron) and Renalda (Bertila Damas) tagging along for the ride. After running a stop sign in a small town just off the New Jersey turnpike, Chris and his friends are pulled over and arrested by a motorcycle cop named Denis (John Candy). The travellers are brought before J.P. (Aykroyd), the ancient and vindictive Justice of the Peace in the very strange village of Valkevania, where minor traffic offenses are usually punished by torture or death. While Fausto and Renalda are able to escape, Chris and Diane find themselves trapped in a bizarre underground maze in which fellow tourists like themselves must fight for their lives. Keep an eye peeled for the screen debut of Tupac Shakur, who appears as a member of the rap group Digital Underground. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

The second of three films by co-writer/director Oliver Stone to explore the effects of the Vietnam War (Platoon and Heaven and Earth are the others), Born On The Fourth Of July tells the true story of Ron Kovic (Tom Cruise), a patriotic, All-American small town athlete who shocks his family by enlisting with the Marines to fight in the Vietnam War. Once he is overseas, however, Kovic's gung-ho enthusiasm turns to horror and confusion when he accidentally kills one of his own men in a firefight. His downfall is furthered by a bullet wound that leaves him paralyzed from the chest down. He returns home, spends an appalling, nightmarish stint in a veterans' hospital, and follows an increasingly disillusioned and fragmented path that ultimately leaves him drunk and dissolute in Mexico. However, Kovic somehow turns himself around and pulls his life together, becoming an outspoken anti-war activist in the process. The film is long but emotionally powerful; many consider it Stone's best work and Cruise's best performance. Both were nominated for Oscars, as was the film itself, but only Stone, who co-wrote the film with Kovic from the latter's book, won for Best Director. ~ Don Kaye, All Movie Guide

Producer/director Michael Mann, kappelmeister of the trendy TV series Miami Vice, tried to impose his MTV mentality on Tinseltown with L.A. Takedown. Los Angeles cop Scott Plank is on the trail of master thief Alex McArthur. After McArthur pulls off "the score of a lifetime," the crook and the cop spend the rest of their screen time in a deadly game of one-upsmanship. The usual Michael Mann trademark of style over substance prevails throughout L.A. Takedown. But the vogue had passed, and this TV pilot film failed to graduate into a series. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
A successful real estate agent, casual drug user, and part-time dealer serves as the catalyst for a lonely single mother's demise in this harrowing tale of addiction starring Daniel Baldwin, Danny Trejo, and Dee Wallace-Stone. Vince Gallagher may be a success in business, but he has never maintained any kind of close emotional ties. These days, however, Vince has grown tired of living alone and is eager to find a good woman to settle down with. One night while out at the restaurant/bar, Vince's friends Katie and Shawn direct his attentions towards the lovely Andrea, who is dining nearby with her daughter and the young girl's sitter. While sitter Connie notices Vince and tries to set the pair up, Andrea is reluctant to befriend a man in a bar and Vince isn't sure he wants to take on an instant family. Later, when Andrea heads to the local real estate office to find a new home and bumps into Vince once again, the two lonely souls begin to grow increasingly close. After Vince and Shawn help Andrea move in, things quickly start to get serious between the newly formed couple. When Vince and Andrea spend a special night together and it's revealed that Vince is into methamphetamine, the frightened woman attempts to kick him out of her house in order to avoid exposing her family to the drug culture.
