Season 4 of the offbeat comedy drama picks up where the third ended: Agrestic is burning, as is the Botwin house and evidence of Nancy's illegal activities. But the drug-dealing widow doesn't stay to play the fiddle while her hometown goes up in flames. Instead Nancy (Mary-Louise Parker) packs up her family and heads south to Ren Mar, California (near the Tijuana border), to hide out with her estranged, despised father-in-law Len (Albert Brooks in a four-episode story arc) and his comatose mother. Needless to say, the reunion doesn't go well, since Len never cared for his daughter-in-law and isn't very fond of son Andy (Justin Kirk) either. Nancy wastes no time jumping back in the drug game, but soon learns that selling pot in suburbia and joining a cartel in Mexico are two totally different things. She also falls in love with cartel leader Esteban Reyes (Demián Bichir), who just happens to be Tijuana's mayor. But their romance goes to pot when Nancy discovers even she can't stomach trafficking in guns, cocaine...and young women. Her preoccupations make her already shaky skills as a parent go farther downhill, as Silas (Hunter Parrish) becomes involved with a beautiful neighbor (Julie Bowen), and Shane (Alexander Gould) becomes quite a Lothario among the tween crowd. Meanwhile, Andy and Doug (Kevin Nealon) become partners in a human-smuggling operation. The new kid at school faces up to the school bully by taking on a challenge no one has the guts to try in this family-oriented comedy. Billy (Luke Benward) is an 11-year-old boy whose folks have just moved to a new town and is facing the terror of his first day at a new school. It doesn't take long for Billy to run afoul of Joe (Adam Hicks), the school bully, who finds the live bait Billy brought with him and throws it in his face, asking Billy if he eats worms for lunch. Billy tries to gross out Joe by saying yes, he eats worms on a regular basis, and Joe calls his bluff by challenging him to eat ten worms in front of the student body. Billy takes the bet, and suddenly becomes something of a celebrity at school as the first kid to stand up to Joe. Billy also discovers he's caught the eye of Erika (Hallie Kate Eisenberg), a cute girl in his class, but can he actually eat the worms without losing his lunch? With the help of a handful of new friends, Billy preps for the big contest by learning how to eat as much gross stuff as he can, and he gains an unexpected ally in hot-headed Principal Burdock (James Rebhorn). The first season finale of Weeds is chock full of incident. Heylia (Tonye Patano) finds out that Conrad (Romany Malco) was responsible for beating up the campus security guard and bars him from speaking to Nancy (Mary-Louise Parker). She's also not very receptive to his plans to start growing their own hydroponic plants. Vaneeta (Indigo) goes into labor. Andy (Justin Kirk) finds out that the U.S. military expects him to report for duty...in Iraq, and doesn't get much sympathy from those around him. Lupita (Renee Victor) tells him, "Bye!" Doug (Kevin Nealon) offers to "put one of those little yellow ribbon stickers on my car. For you." Desperate times call for desperate measures. Peter (Martin Donovan) stops by the "fakery," and invites Nancy over to his house while his son is away. She tells him, "My life's not gonna get any less complicated any time soon," but he doesn't seem to want to give up. Isabelle (Allie Grant) and her little friend Peggy (Olivia Sui) experiment with lesbianism, while Celia (Elizabeth Perkins), feeling much better, thanks, is reverting back to her old, hypercritical ways. "When you think you're gonna die," Isabelle tells her, "you're a much better person." A college students discovers a horrifying truth behind the old saying "They only come out at night" in this thriller. Julia Lund (Laura Regan) is a college student studying psychology who, as a child, was haunted by "night terrors," hideous nightmares so vivid they seem real. As Julia's life becomes more stressful, her childhood nightmares begin coming back; what's more, her friend Billy (Jon Abrahams), who had similar dreams as a boy, also reports that his terrors have returned, complete with the same monsters he claims spirited him away for two days when he was little. Julia's boyfriend Paul (Marc Blucas) is certain they're both just imagining things thanks to too much studying and too little sleep, but when Billy turns up dead, an apparent suicide, Julia is convinced something really is out to get them. Certain there really are monsters which come out to get people when the lights go off, Julia is determined to find and harness these creatures of the dark, while Paul is convinced his girlfriend has descended into madness.
